Rejuventating, Repairing or Restoring Your Balenciaga

There is a 3-year warranty on manufacturer's defects by Balenciaga. Where did you buy your bag? If you bought it at Holt's within the last year, take it there and they will take care of the whole thing for you at no charge. Otherwise, you'll have to go through the store you purchased at, ship it to them, and they'll send it off to Balenciaga for you:smile1:

hi, I have the same problem with my black twiggy. Actually on mine you can see the clear piping at the corners. I think from what I've seen the twiggy's corners show the most wear out of all the bbags. I will try to take mine to a professional to see if they can do something about the worn leather.
I haven't really heard of Balenciaga repairing stuff. Maybe some girls know more than me about this. You could send out your bag to a place like Lovin my Bags ( LMB) I've heard they do awesome work.

I bought mine on ebay actually so its not from Holt's. But your post encouraged me to ask them and they gave me the name of a place where I cna possibly get it repaired.

Thanks everyone - I hope its not overly expensive since I paid a very reasonable price for the bag LOL

hmmm does anyone know if there's something similar to LMB in Europe?? I can't bear the thought of having my bal babies shipped overseas... sniff sniff

Here is a cautionary tale, and one of redemption, as well!

This summer, I purchased a lovely '04 Marron First at a consignment store, for a heart-palpitatingly low (for BBags, that is) price. I was beyond thrilled. The bag was (is) in amazing shape: perfect leather, no stains, no rips. The handles were moderately 'warmed', but not horribly so. And then it hit me. The smell. The perfume smell. The cloying perfume of the previous owner had permeated the handles, making the bag virtually unwearable. :crybaby:

I tried everything I could think of--including Nature's Miracle pet odor remover! Finally, I decided it was worth giving LMB a shot. Barbara said she could de-stinkify my handles. And she did!!!:yahoo:

Apparently, LMB uses some kind of nasty solvent on the handles, to remove all the oils and dirt. Then, my bag spent about 2 weeks in the 'ozone room', further removing the odor. In the last step, the handles were refinished.

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't recommend refinishing except under the most extreme circumstances. In my case, it was either this, or throw the bag away--I most certainly couldn't have sold it, not with a clear conscience, anyway. Seriously, I am just so pleased with the results! The handles feel like new, and the color matches the complex color of the body of the bag perfectly.

So, for those of you with a beloved older bag, or those of you thinking of taking a chance on a less-than-perfect Ebay bag, take heart. It is worth spending a little less than $100 to give a lovely older bag a few more years of use!

ps: sorry, no pics. I didn't take 'before' pics, so it would not be useful to have 'after' pics--and you can't capture stink in a picture!!

I really appreciate your letting us know your experience.

I just bought a bag with dark handles (hasn't arrive yet). I consulted with Barbara on the auction before buying and I have a LMB gift certificate that will probably cover most of the cost. I will take before and after photos and let everyone know how it goes.

I really like this idea of reviving the handles without changing the body of the bag. So often, the handles are the only part of a bag showing any real wear, and since they don't need to have the same smooshiness and drape of the rest of the bag, it seems much less risky. And I have to say, I love the way her "for handles only" product makes the handles feel like new again - it's amazing stuff.

bubba, I actually think "after" pics would be really useful, if you could get a closeup of the handles - I'd just like to see how they turned out! Was the whipstitching affected? I'm just curious, I know it can be a pain to take photos.
