sdsurfchick, thank you so very much! You've just taken care of my weekend reading :)

The nautical scarf: I can't help any with the name research but I grew up in a seafaring family, so I can tell a bit about the more obscure boats on it.

Terre-neuva de St. Malo means a fishing boat from St. Malo (a port in Brittany) that specialized in fishing cod in the waters of Newfoundland (Terre-Neuve in French). Vapeur d'excursion finlandais is a Finnish excursion steamer. Goélette française is a French schooner.

What throws me is that there should be two Ns in 'britannique' but there is only one; and that the boat naming switches to English convention a couple of times. Maybe the naming of the older scarves has its quirks!
But they do have a museum at Fbg. Not easy to get a tour. Here's a great and recent article on the company. http://www.francetoday.com/articles...tit_Journal_for_July_13_2011&utm_medium=email

Thanks for this contribution! I am still researching the scarf.

Thank you Sdsurfchick! What a small world we live in after the internet revolution! I will definetly order the book, I guess I can look at the pictures and pretend to know Italian....

Jahna, so it appears I have an old scarf with sunking ships on it, lol!

Ladies, I have posted attached scarf in another link which I don't think is very active, so I try again. Have anyone any knowledge of this scarf? It looks weird but it feels ok-old, if you know what I mean.
TIA!

I looked through every Peron I could find (thanks for the picture of "Redoubtable"!), starting to wonder if this scarf was done by one of the other "nautical" artists...LeDoux? Rybal (the first).

Note to Brage: they need a picture on Luxury-Scarves of "Les Haras Nationaux". Plus there are a lot of other gaps, especially in colorways. It really is an excellent resource...

It has the look of "Le Debouche":

brage, you need to send these pictures to [email protected] and [email protected]. I actually get responses faster from the UK. Anyway, I suggest this because this is listed as a fake in a pretty reliable private database.

You say the silk feels good? Are the hems as well? And the measurements? All the tell tale signs?

Be patient. Let us know what you learn.

You are a true encyclopedia. So Hermes to have an exclusive museum like that!

Great article as well, thank you. I am so floored to be learning just on how much world culture and heritage and honest workmanship this brand stands. Besides just beauty, it gives their scarves an emotional hook that's hard to beat.

Thank you Sdsurfchick, I will Ask Hermes and I'm not surprised if it is a fake as it looks weird. The Hermes signature looks real though, but I guess the fakers can fix that as well. Is this listed as a recent fake or an fakes from the 80s? Just wondering as the silk feels old.

Thank you so much!

BTW, I enjoyed the knowledge you have about ships!
