Hi! I have a quick question and hope I don't sound too dumb. The only Hermes scarves I've ever owned or seen were 90cm (35"). However, starting to read through this forum and a couple of blogs, I now see they also come in 16" and 27" versions. Am I correct in assuming the 16" are referred to as BOTH "gavroche" and "pochette" scarves? If those terms refer to different types of scarves, what is the difference between them?

Also, I haven't seen many of these smaller scarves for sale on Ebay. Are they uncommon or not popular? Where on the secondary market can I find them? I think I'd love to try some smaller sizes, but I don't live near an Hermes store, nor could I afford the brand new retail price.

Thanks!

yay! i just rec'd my L'Instruction du Roy today
i simply adore the prancing horses on it

from these pics, is it possible to tell whether it's a 1993 piece or re-issue?

Pochette is the same as gavroche. Do a search on eBay and save the search. You will get emails when they come available.

Searched and didn't see anything so I apologize if this question has already been asked or if information is posted elsewhere.

I get the most wear from 90 cm or 70 cm silk scarves, but I do have a GM cashmere/silk shawl and, now that it's summer, I'm interested in a GM mousseline. I'm not finding anything in the boutiques that is really catching my eye, plus I'm worried about the delicate fabric. So I'm also considering the giant (140 cm) summer silk twill scarf, which I've seen in the Lalbhai design and like but I'm not sure I love.

Can anyone weigh in on:
- how delicate is the mousseline fabric? Especially in the GM size, are holes/tears/pulls inevitable?
- is the summerweight silk twill in the 140 size new, or have other designs (besides Lalbhai) been issued in this size/fabric?

Thanks!

Lalbhai is the only summer weight so far. In my experience, the mousseline is not at all fragile and does not snag or pull nearly as easily as the CS GM. I wore 90cm twills for at least 20 years before I bought a mousseline and now I absolutely love them.

^ Thank you so much sdsurfchick, I always appreciate your expert insight. Glad to hear the mousseline is not as delicate as I had assumed; I had imagined it snagging on jewelry, zippers etc, especially in the larger size. There's just something about H mousseline that is so soft and fluid compared to other silk chiffon scarves!

Re the smaller scarves... I just bought one "Passmenterie" (sp?) and I am enjoying wearing it as a purse tie, and as a headband on my straw hat. I have seen quite a few on ebay Portoar, but they do seem to be listed as sdsurfchick said, as well as "small" Hermes scarf, or sometimes as the size. Not quite as standard as the larger versions. But multiple searches on ebay should do it...

Portoar, I didn't respond to the second half of your question. 27" is part of the H-"vintage" line, not to be confused with "old, used, second hand" etc. They started this lines some years back and the treatment of the silk is such that it feels worn, soft, vintage-y.
