I do not know of any scarf about Anne. She lived long before 1586. I do not think there is a reference to her on "Mont Saint Michel" - VHTF - I don't own it. Sorry, I am drawing a blank

Hi,
Is anyone familiar with the Hermes scarf of Anne de Bretaigne 2th Femme de Louis 12 or St. Malo 15 86? Any information about this scarf would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

As with anything, it is the market that dictates the value. It very much depends on the pattern, the age and the general condition of the scarf. So it is hard for us to tell the value of your scarves (of which one was not an Hermes scarf IIRC). It is the buyer who dictates the value, so the best thing for you to do is run some ebay test runs with a reserve price.

I agree that prices are quite variable
-"trusted sellers" get better prices
-favorite designs can go for a premium
- everything depends on condtion , runs, pulls etc
- prices are higher before Xmas etc etc

But, look at Ebay's completed auctions - search by scarf title - that might help

Does anyone know where I can find the values of different scarves? I had posted last week with 4 scarves, and I now know the names of them, but still have no idea any of the values.

This checklist was written to help friends avoid buying fake HS on Ebay. It is inteneded to be SIMPLE and does not cover all possibilities (vintage scarves are tricky !!) but enjoy & I hope this is useful

Please give me feedback, I'm happy to answer questions

Hermes Scarves - Just Say NO to the Fakes !
This system should help you avoid fakes of the 35 in square (90 cm) Hermes silk twill scarves. This system is not fail proof, some real Hermes scarves may slip through your hands, but you will be able to avoid most of the FAKES !
STEP 1 If you answer YES to ANY of these questions, then the scarf is likely a cheap fake:

 1. Is an orange paper price (or product ID) tag attached to the scarf ?
 2. If in an orange box, is the scarf noticeably too small for the box ?
 3. Is the caretag sewn onto a location other at the corner & on the back of the scarf ?
 4. Was the scarf made anywhere but France ?
 5. Is the hem rolled toward the back ?
 6. Is the hem machine sewn ?
 7. Is the caretag fabric or sewing in any color but black or white ?
 8. Is the writing on the caretag in any laguage but French or English ?

STEP 2 If you answer NO to all of the above, then count the number of these items that are already displayed in the listing text or photos

 1. Copyright mark
 2. The words Hermes Paris
 3. The title of the scarf
 4. The artist's name or signature
 5. An accent over the second e in "Hermes Paris" - it should be Hermès even if the word is in capital letters !!
How to interpret your score:
 • 5 means you're in luck, it is probably the real deal.
 • 3, 4 or 5 means it is likely a fake or a very old (30 years +) vintage scarf. If you're looking for a recent scarf, DONT BUY IT ! If you're willing to try your luck with vintage, then ask for further advice - but vintage scarves are rarely worth a fortune !
 • 0,1 or 2 or less means WALK AWAY - IT IS LIKELY a fake
Notes:
 1. Don't ask for all this stuff, it should already be there ! The modern hifi fakes have all this on the scarf, but rarely on the listingor in the photos
 2. Contrary to popular opinion block printing is not necessarily a bad thing.
 • It is suspect on a recent design
 • It is OK on some reissues: Timbalier, Tourbillion, Brides de Gala, (OK, the "de" is in small letters) & Cles. Some Tourbillons even have it in WHITE letters !!

I just bought a scarf on ebay and it is by Joachim Metz 1987. It is in the link to the House of scarves or the hermes scarf book? Anyways, it looks like it has not been used. My question is that it has the care tag with a number 6, but I cannot find his name in the scarf or the C = copyright symbol?? The scarf looks just like the one here on the reference except it is navy base color. The Scarf is called Post et Cavalerie....I'm assuming authentic. My other scarf by him Sangles has a Neiman's label, his name, the C = for copyright, and the care label with the A for the roulette?

Why can't I find his name on the Post et Cavalerie scarf and no copyright symbol???

Thanks if someone can help me.!!

Hi NHL I think you're good. Not all scarves have the copyright symbol and not all scarves bear the artist's signature (doesn't make authenticating H scarves easier, does it). I just checked with the reference library of an H scarf group that I belong to and I didn't find the signature or copyrighty C on that scarf either.

Thank You Hello!! I feel better. It looks good, but when I compared it to the scarf I got previously from the same artist the silk felt softer (worn) and the color went all the way thru to the back except it was a little lighter. This scarf really looked unworn, and the silk crisper, all the hem still fluffy.

I'm finding I like this person's design or am drawn toward his b/c when I look for scarves, it is his name that comes up (SO WILD, b/c I'm not an expert).

Thanks again for your response.

NHL I like Joachim Metz's designs too (a fellow German :smile1: ). The feel of the silk really depends on the sizing that was used when it was produced, how often it was worn/washed/drycleaned, etc. The Sangles I have looks the same back and front whereas other scarves I have look different back (like you described). Why don't you post a pic and then we can all admire it.

Hi Hello!
How cool that you have an H scarf group!
BIG FAVOR.
I am communicating with a person by email (long story) who has this scarf that she will sell me. I feel like I've seen the design, but can't place it. They are practically *giving* it away, and I can't figure out why... (They don't deal in H scarves and don't want to be bothered to do the research). Does anyone recognize this?
http://www.members.aol.com/laponder/images/scarf

I'm afraid if I keep asking them questions, they're going to get the idea that it may be "precious!" Believe me-- this is the sort of person that if I demanded authenticity... they wouldn't know if it was authentic or not.

You all may hate the colors, but it would go perfectly with something I own.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Lori

Hi Hello,

I Found the CopyRight Symbol hidden in the Braiding on the trim!!:yahoo: I saw another scarf for sale and saw a picture of it.:smile1:

I'll take a picture if you need it, but I feel better, and the tag has a # for the roulette(sp??).

Thanks for your original help!

Hi Ladies, I just received this in the mail. Can anyone give me any information on it? I've just dropped it off at the framers as I wanted something for my wall but took a couple of pics before.

BTW - the care tag has the initials LL in a circle - not sure if that means anything.
