^ Yeah but it doesn't say what Carre and Gavroche are? Are they just terms for scarves, designs, shapes or what?

People have modeled scarves and said that they are Finish Carre or Ex Libris Gavroche or something but because they are tied around the neck I don't know what the difference is.

Sorry, I'm a bit thick when it comes to these things!! I need simple, idiot proof descriptions or photos! :weird:

Hi, let me try to help a bit:
the carre is square
the Gavroche is square or rectangular and it`s usualy worn plied in the middle as a triangle
70, 90 and so on are centimeter
twill is the style of fabric, but Hermes also calls the smaller scarfs Twillys
Losange is a scarf you might wear like a tie
GM, MM and Mini are the sizes of a Gavroche

Importants is: it's Hermes and I love them all,
SF

Can anybody help me?

I've done lots of searches but can't find anything to help me.

I'm completely new to Hermes silk and I'm confused with all the different styles. I've heard about Carre, Gavroche, 70, 90, GM etc etc and I've no idea what people are talking about. I've gathered that 70 and 90 are the measurements 70cm and 90cm but what about Carre and Gavroche - what are they?

I've also found out (I think) that Twilly is like a thick ribbon style and that Losange is like a Cravat. Am I right?

If there is a reference thread about this can somebody post a link for me please?

I'm so mad that I didn't know that there was a size 70 cm!!! I even asked one SA if there was something between 90 cm and Gavroche of 45 cm and she said NO!!! so now I have like 7 scarf of 90 and for me 70 would have been much more suitable. I also didn't know about the fluid ones - I never ever seen them in the boutiques?!?! Do you need to ask the SA for them - like for the bags - do they keep them in the back too???

ari - the H stores in Singapore display the fluid jerseys hanging on some knots. and as for scarves, you have to ask them, cos some stores might not have space to display it. when I ask for scarves, they will open the drawers and check. I never notice them going to the back though.

The fluid jerseys are really pretty and nice, but the SA said it's very fragile, if you pull a thread e.g. with your finger nails or caught on things, the run is very obvious. I have never own any yet, so can't tell you my personal experience. But they H-it-nicely as tops:) cos it's elastic....but 100% silk

To add on to silkfringe : When most refer to Carre here, it means the silk square - mostly the 70cm or 90cm. Gavroches are also known as pocket squares or pochettes - the 45cm. Here's a quick list of the ones normally seen posted on this forum (there are lots more different types) :

Twilly - silk ribbon
45cm - silk, also known as gavroche, pocket square, pochette
70cm - vintage silk (the finish is slightly different than the regular silk, it has a softer hand)
90cm - the regular silk scarf. The PM cashmere scarf also comes in this size.
140cm - GM cashmere shawl (65% cashmere : 35% silk).
Pointu - silk in triangle shape (literally as if a 90cm scarf is slice in half)
Losange - silk in diamond shape, also comes in the mini and GM (for men) sizes

Some newer and more popular introductions include the Fluide jerseys silk (90cm) and dip dye silk (90cm).

I got a new scarf on ebay from a trusted seller. I am, however, a little turned off as it feels stiff and not as silky as the others I have. I am very new to scarves and fabrics so I was wondering if there is any place where I can go and learn about the different types of materials used. I don't want to make the same mistake of getting a scarf that does not feel nice.

many thanks

You're saying you bought an authentic scarf but it does not feel good. There are no samples for that; sometimes cleaners are using chemicals (like starch) making a scarf stiff. My recommendation is to wash the scraf carefully by hand (with a little bit of Woolite e.g.). Iron the scarf guarding it with a coton cloth. You will feel better and the scarf too. :hugs:
