Hello,

About a year ago I saw a scarf with a woman in a boat wearing a conical hat and I believe the scarf said "Vientienne" on it. Can anyone verify if this is an actual Hermes design? Also, can anyone post any Far East or South East Asian themed Hermes scarfs? I always seem to come across Indian, American Indian and African themes but rarely Asia (although this year they do have a Japanese print). Any info/photos would be great! Thank you.

Fetes Venitiennes by Hubert de Watrigant was reissued as Carnival de Venise and comes up often on eBay. Plus, it is a jacquard design which makes it all the more special. Scarves with asian figures include Siam, Samourai, Nikko and Geisha. Asian themed are plentiful ... Jonques et Sampans, Turandot, Daimyo, Bonsai, Reveries Japonaise, Souvenirs d'Asie. I will try to post pix later. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much sdsurfchick- this is a great help - I Googled all of the ones you mentioned and found most of them I really appreciate it! So the one labeled Vientienne is actually the capital of Laos though spelled very similarly to Venetians in French. Any other Asian scarfs you come across I would love to know! Thanks again this was such a great help!

I have the attached scarf and someone wants to buy it. I was wondering what would any of you say was a fair price? I have been told that it is called Ascot 1831 designed by Francoise de la Perriere in 1969, reissued in 2004 as La Ronde des Jockeys. It has a faint iron line down the middle but otherwise is in very good condition.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated as I do not want to get it wrong.
Many thanks

I just remembered Kimonos et Inros 1986 and 1998 by Annie Faivre and Marche Flottant du Lac Inle 1998 by Dimitri Rybaltchenko. Unfortunately, all my pix are too big to upload here. If it's important to you, pm me and I will send you pix sometime this week. Are you looking for a very specific theme?

Did you try doing a search on eBay for completed listings? Check Ascot and La Ronde des Jockeys.

Here's a picture of a scarf I currently have. It's the fuchsia color Jardin Creole scarf. I think I have pics for the red Gloria Soli scarf as well, have to find it in my computer. But for the time being here's the fuchsia Jardin Creole. This particular one is from Spring/Summer 2006. Enjoy!
Hello! I am a novice Hermes collector. Someone has offered me this scarf for $385US. It is in very good shape it seems-a picture was sent. Any input would be appreciated.

PS I hope I've doen this correctly. I'm new to the forum also! M

MaisieZ, I can't tell from your post which scarf is being offered to you. Can you post a picture? I can't tell if you are interested in Jardin Creole or Gloria Soli. Anyway, the price you pay is 100% subjective ... all depends on how much you want it and, of course, the condition. Bear in mind that the current retail price is $375 and neither of these are considered highly collectible and show up in the reseller market quite often. HTH

Hi - Thank you so much - it was the Jardin Creole in the pink CW and further research confirmed your response. This can be a tricky business as a scarf doesn't appear for awhile and then bingo there are several. Other than great sites such as this, any books I can use to help? I will be visiting my Hermes store to follow up a lovely purchase with a lesson in scarf tying. Thoughts for a scarf ring eg one made of horn perhaps?

Hello again - My first purchase last month was a silk jacquard - I love it (saw one posted for less just recently - by F. Faconnet - Ograuphones et Autres Mecaniques - black CW). The same seller (can I mention names here? )on eBay has another silk jacquard in blue - Fetes Ven. but I'm careful especially after what I just refered to - as always, buyer beware!

Great info everyone! Thanks.

Just joined TPF ...wanted to say a great big THANK YOU to all of you...have only recently discovered the magical world of Hermes -- in my case, scarves. Your wide-ranging knowledge, generosity with information and sheer joy are contagious...
THANK YOU ALL !!!

Well, as luck would have it, in October Hermes is coming out with a book (I'm presuming coffee table type). It will be pricey (US$150), but is supposed to have great pix, with design and designer stories. Don't be surprised if your SA doesn't know about it yet. Do you know how to use the advanced search function on eBay? This is a good way to find out how much certain designs have gotten in the past. HTH

MaisieZ, I am a relative novice to scarves as well and found Mai tai, Van Miracle, and Rose/Scarfologist's blogs and posts on SOTD and elsewhere on this forum very useful re scarf rings how to's and recommendations.

Hello sdsurfchick - No, I'm not familiar with the advancedsearch section on ebay but I'll investigate it. I really appreciate your input. I really like the Napolean you have mentioned (I'm a sucker for the silk jacquard). I've found a very pricey one in a pink CW on eBay and a white one also. Aside from just liking them, will this Hermes book discuss which are the more desirable CWs? Again, many thanks for your input.
