Try thre hermes web site hermes.com

but IMHO, the scarves are a lot less horsy than they used to be, eg they have a byunch of lines on them - that laid flat out show a horse, but folded around your neck , the horse disappears and all you see is lines ...

Vintage is the best way if you want a scarf that REALLY looks like a horse or has SERIOUS horse gear on t, saddles, stirrups & what not - try Ebay for that

FashionistaMD,

Wow, that's exciting--your 1st Hermes scarf! A classic "horsey" themed one too--good start (and good taste, in my opinion).

Unfortunately, what marietouchet says is true--most of the trueblue Hermes equestrian scarves are out of print and sold mostly on eBay as USED scarves. Be careful about buying Hermes on eBay--lots of fakes out there. (also, do you really want a scarf that someone else has worn, esp. for your 1st purchase?)

The good news is that Hermes reprints two classic designs each season. The colorations are not always classic; some are just plain gaudy; but, some are good. Here are a few:

Mors et Gourmettes (White background, cement ornaments, just a touch of orange accent). The ornaments are 3-D on this one, which is rare nowadays; most are flat and 1-D. I won't say what I think of the other color combos, except that I don't feel they highlight the beauty of this pattern. This pattern is EZ to tie too. Always consider this factor with any scarf pattern.

Etriers. (best in White background, pale taupe center, gold ornaments) Of the recent classics they've printed, this is one of the all-time great equestrian patterns. Unfortunately, the colorations are not on par. For the white, watch out for the taupe at the center of the scarf; unflattering for some complexions. This has the classic Hermes gold metal ornaments--very very rare these days. EZ to tie.

Cles. (...??? colorations; I have not kept up w/ this reprint.) This is also another all-time classic Hermes pattern. It looks best with a border and white interior, which adds some freshness to the classic gold ornaments. EZ to tie.

Brazil. (violet colorway, pale taupe/banana creme/wood brown feathers). This is a reprint; not strictly equestrian, but one of the best reprints of the season. Only problem are the browns near the face, which are not flattering for any complexion. The violet b/g takes out that problem. Not as EZ to tie as the previous others; center is prettiest part of this pattern. This is one scarf pattern you MUST try-on first before buying. Best place to do that is at an Hermes boutique or at Neiman Marcus (some of their stores still carry Hermes scarves.)

and, since we're talking feathers and all, another equestrian-ish theme that might still be available at NM is a "floral" horse pattern:

Cheval Fleuri. (...I didn't buy this one and not sure of what was available...but I seem to recall they printed it in pink background, white b/g, black b/g and choc brwn b/g). NM should be able to tell you if they still have it.

Also, some buying advice: Try-on a scarf before you buy it, esp. if you're just starting out w/ your collection. See what looks good against your complexion. I would avoid buying online or by phone until you really develop an eye for how a scarf will tie and what colors look great on you. After years of buying, I still have to try-on before I'm sure.

Good luck and have fun!

THANK YOU. :yahoo:
I can't wait to research these scarves and see what they look like :smile1:

Can anyone help me find an equestrian theme scarf? I'm buying my first one in a few months and would really like a horsey theme. Thanks!
Jumping is one of my faves, but you will have to find a vintage and be careful of fakes. You may be able to find Ecole Portugaise d'Art Equestre in a boutique as it was a special issue last year. Other oldies but goodies are Reprise and La Presentation. Really, there are a bazillion, but you need to be careful of fakes on eBay. Good luck. HTH
