Good job on the Napoleon!!! Would have loved to see a 'before' pic. Or maybe not ;)
I put my newer scarves into the washing machine (with one of those colour catching thingies, in a lingerie net), no problem. But I haven't dared doing this to a vintage piece yet.

Hi there. I recently came across an old Hermes scarf, (I don't have access to a digital camera at the moment but I'll try to get a photo later) and was hoping someone could identify it.

So the scarf is predominantly red. There appears to be some sort of design woven into the actual silk, jacquard I think it's called. It has an Australia theme. Anyone seen or heard of it?

I heard it is ok to use the washing machine, as long as the scarves do not have green on them. apparently it bleeds...

that cw is from the early 70s, my mom used to have it, congrats!
I thought it would be interesting to post pics of a 35+ year old scarf I bought on eBay. I got the thumbs up on Authenticate This (thanks Seton!). The errors aren't ghastly as a whole but when you see the comparisons of the "good" side and "bad" side, it's kind of startling! I still love the scarf. Another fun fact - the scarf was so filthy when it arrived that I immediately hand washed it. I was so disgusted with all the dirt, stains and dried crud on the scarf (the seller stated it was in very good condition - maybe with beer goggles on!) that I gave up and threw it loose in the washing machine. I was fully prepared for it to be ruined but it came out quite fine. No runs of any kind! I even managed to plump up the flat ironed hems (ugggh) by rolling them between my thumbs and fingers. Enjoy!

Hi there, I would like to buy my wife a Hermes scarves and found this on the bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=190268830635 . Could some one tell me if this is the real deal. I looked my self on the net and found 4 different versions of this scarves I don't speak of different colors what I mean different writing and labeling. There must be a lot of fakes around.
Thanks Olaf

looks fine.
Next time, please ask qiestions in this thread:

Hi gurus,
Does anyone know the name of this scarf? also any details on designer and year of issue would be great. This is the cashmere scarf (not shawl). Thanks!

I've been looking through this thread for cleaning information. There are lots of tips on how to wash, but I have not found any recommendations on the silk wash that people favor. What silk washes do you feel work best? I know about Woolite, but are there any others that are less harsh and more effective? I have 4 H scarves to wash and I want to get your advice. Thank you.

hey jburgh - there is at least one thread on caring for silk scarves in the main H forum. from what i remember, people use baby shampoo as well. hope that helps!

I use Le Blanc Silk & Lingerie Wash. Really works great and is vey gentle.

Thanks - I managed to find a cleaning thread. I did order some Le Blanc, LaurieAnn. It should get here in a few days. I got some scarves from Ritz Consignment. They are very pretty, but smelly. :push:

I am new to this but since I am a purse nut (though I collect antique ones) & I thought you guys could help. Some one gave these 2 Hermes Scarves to us as a donation to our Scout troop to sell to raise money for the kids. Since we usually have a tag sale these are too expensive to just put out there I have taken pictures of them. The one with the Turkey was a commemorative issue and has a signature. I actually have an article about the particular artist the did the design. The other I am not not sure if it is real or a copy. How can you tell?
Linda
