it is called "arabesques" by D'Origny, the design came out in 1963, I did not know they made a mouss in 1998

Hi, can any of you tell me what this pattern is? It's a handpainted shawl that I purchased at Hermes NYC in about 1998 - 1999. It has the word "arabesques" but when I look up that word it doesnt' bring up anything that looks like my shawl on the web! It is super duper sheer so hard to photograph (I had to put it on the bare wood of my dining room table to give it depth). It has an interesting effect, which the camera picks up more in the second pic, of reflecting red off the orange surface. Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks marietouchet!

My "Maharajas" scarf has four maharajas on each corner and has the "C. Baschet" signature. Attached are some photos. I've framed it, so the images are not so clear through the glass.

What do you think? Genuine Hermes?

Never faked. Original had rajahs in the corners - they were removed & replaced in later issues & the scarf was renamed

The rajahspictures were real people - they actually existed - so maybe they were pictued w/o permission & that was why scarf was redone

I also heard that one of the rajs (forgot which corner it was) was quite the evil person, too, a murderer.

Do you know if "Maharajas" or "Splendeur des Maharajas" was the original name? Do you know the years this scarf was issues? Thanks!

yours seem authentic. I have seen that colorway IRL. Maharajas was the original (which is what you have). From 1996.

They reissued it in 2002 and removed the 4 rajs in the corner with elephants and retitled it as Splendeur des Maharajas

thanks Seton!
I have the Maharajas with the big faces on the corners, I will have to take a look at it, I thought it was called Splendeurs des maharajas. tell me more about the eveil raj!!!
Fascinating!

Yes, take a look at yours. I am 99.9% sure that it should say just "Maharajas" if you have the faces in the corner.
The evil Raj thing - that's the story I was told from someone pretty high up in the H food chain - when Splendeurs came out.

I checked it last night, yep, it only says Maharajas right in the upper middle, 2 of the faces are very similar, the one in the bottom left is chubby, I love those huge colliers of pearls and stones they are wearing!

I was trying to figure out the date of issue of the scarf described below. The relevant posts are on pages 34-35. Sorry I'm rather worthless on the linking.

Many thanks.

Bride de Cour means "court harness" - there is only one on the scarf as opposed to Brides de Gala (Gala Harnesses) which shows a pair. Francois de la Perriere did indeed design it in 1969.
