You refer to the light weight silk twills ? Called a summer twill 140cm ? Which I assume is about the same - maybe not - as the silk marketed today as twill plume on the web site
My experience with other brand light weight silks is as follows. I would not have dared wash an Hermes lightweight silk as much. Even after extensive washing, they never lose all the shine. They may get softer because the sizing has washed but by then they wrinkle a lot. Steaming has no effect other than to get rid of the wrinkles if you do not like them (some do). Steaming will not reduce the shine
A acid bath - vinegar - also helps to soften the scarves, it also supposedly fixes (stabilizes) the colors. It is just a DIY variant on a color catcher.
I do have an Hermes twill lave 140cm - which is no longer marketed , I think? It feels just like 90cm twill. I have no idea what lave was supposed to mean - it may have been acid washed since lave means washed in French
I have an Hermes dip dye 140cm which is yet another type of silk, at least as heavy as 90cm twill, maybe a bit heavier ? and certainly quite soft out of the box, as are the dip dyes in general
There was a 4th type of twill used in 140cms , I think. Some large size carres are marketed as carre geants, without saying anything about the fabric on the laminated tag . The caretag , of course, says 100% silk for ALL of the above scarves, any information about the fabric type is only on the laminated storetg.
Thank you so much for your reply, marietouchet. Very informative! Glad to know that washing wouldn't get rid of the shine. Just have to decide whether or not I want to keep such a shiny shawl.
