Rediscovering Marc Jacobs vintage

I've done it again and I have two more vintage/archive Marc bags on their way 🤪

I haven't been able to properly ID the colour blocked bag but based on the design, logo, and price (it came with original tags!), I'd say it was from resort or cruise from 2008-2010.

The leopard is MBMJ FW03 but has "Marc Jacobs" labels inside, this is because the brand was sold under Marc's mainline until 2005/2006 when it became its own separate entity. MBMJ was originally launched in 2001 as a more playful, trendy alternative to Marc's mainline. This bag didn't appear on the runway (MBMJ rarely showed bags in their early shows) but I recognized it by the leopard corduroy that appeared in some other pieces from that season.

Obsessed with the leopard. You find such interesting pieces! Your closet must be a dream

Old Balenciaga was also going for similar prices before the city revival in the late 2010s
I could still get decent vintage Bals for less than 300 a few years ago. Now the worst condition ones are listed at 800. Vintage Fendi was the same way. Now Chloe is going back up...? The good news for vintage Marc Jacobs fans is the leather stands up much better than Balenciaga vintage pieces.

I have one Bal bag I got at a consignment store for around $300....I won't pay the prices they are asking now. I haven't even seen one I'd want anyway.
But I know a lot of people love them. To each her own.

I must not have been looking in the right places! I have two city bags, one in the regular goat leather from FW12 and the multicolour lattice from SS09 and while I love them, I have to say, the leather on the Marc pieces is definitely better quality 🫢

Don't get me wrong, I love Balenciaga leather when it's in good shape. But when the handles turn dark and the blues fade and the piping comes out, I cannot fix that (others can!) The worn OG Marc Jacobs pieces are a lot more like vintage Coach - where you might need to clean and condition and polish and they're pretty much good as 2015. lol

It sounds like I've been lucky with mine! I got my FW12 teal one at retail and I've been tough on that bag for over a decade and the blue on the handles hasn't really faded and the piping is still in good condition. Maybe I lucked out on the type of blue I chose being a better dye?

The earlier Bal blues (04-06) definitely fade and yellow faster than later years!

Going back on topic, I scored a great deal on a not quite vintage bag I lusted after circa 09-10. I'm awaiting its arrival: a Paradise Rio satchel.

I definitely have some cool pieces, including some Marc RTW I'd love to share if anyone's interested in seeing! I didn't want to get off the topic of bags as this is PurseForum, but I'd love to share :)
Idk if it’s allowed either but I’d love to see them! I still remember seeing a bit of that black jacket with white stripes? Or white pattern? Idk what brand it was but you shared it with one of your MJ bag posts and it was amazing so I feel like your taste in MJ RTW is gonna be great too

I got a 2012 City for just over $500 earlier this year and thankfully it was in excellent condition. I’m hoping to eventually get one of the older 2003-2007 era bags and be done but the hype has to calm down a bit because I’ve seen some disrespectful prices on some awful looking bags

Just looked it up and it’s lambskin! I bet it feels so soft. Definitely agree, pls share when it arrives!

Chloes are up! The Paddington prices have skyrocketed just in the last few months. They were easily accessible for like $200 low $300s even as of January. Now they’re at least $600+ on resale sites. They picked up a lot of steam on social media and the 2025 re-release sent those numbers up. I’m seeing the same happen with some vintage/vintage-ish Coach bags. It’s fascinating to watch
