Rediscovering Marc Jacobs vintage

I just received a very odd Marc Jacob’s „made in Italy“ bag. I was drawn into because of the bag lies in between „ugly high duty“ and „but wearable and functional“ style 😅. It was 40 euros and I bought it for fun and for my collector tendencies.🤭 I never have seen this style. It has a big and heavy leather strap- and maybe it was a men’s bag. However, I could not find anything like that. Google image search was without success.i found a similar bag with a different strap but no information whatsoever. It has also a lampo zipper inside but that’s it which has a label except the „made in Italy“ imprint. Has someone an idea, what is that? I am torn what to do with it but will likely wear it because it’s so NOT my style and for rainy weather 😆😅💪🏻 a “different” purse. For sure. 😁

I did a bit of digging and it looks like it's from 2006, I suspect from a cruise/resort collection as I don't recall seeing this range appear on the SS or FW 2006 runways. Thank you. 😊 this helped a lot. I am now convinced and after looking at it for a looooong time: It’s certainly not my current style of bag and may be very different- but I like it and will put it away for next fall. 😊

It's more likely a pre-fall bag than a cruise/resort bag tbh, but both pre-fall and resort images aren't as readily available online as the SS/FW runway collections unfortunately! Given the rise of late 90s/2000s Coach lately, I could see this style of being becoming trendy within the next year or two.

Yes, might be the case. Preloved is the way to go for the most of us, I believe. I put it in my drawer and it will make a decent beauty sleep and eventually when fall is here, I bring it back 😅😊

Omg I saw this bag listed recently and I wanted to buy it but it had pretty significant scratching on it so I passed 😭

Miu miu vibes for sure! Do you know the brand, Marge Sherwood? It’s also become very popular recently and they have quite a few bags similar to this style. Love that you have this baby ready for a little update 20 years later ❤️

Took my Fall ‘05 newbie out for errands today. I know some people aren’t fans of Labubus but I had to bring the little gremlin along.

Side note - the hardware on the front flap is WEIGHTY. I have to be careful not to have my phone near or under the bag when I flick it open to reach inside because last thing I need is my bag addiction leading to a cracked screen 🫠
Still love it though!

Something a little different, this is from a very short lived MBMJ unisex diffusion line called Stinky Rat that I think was only available at the Marc Jacobs boutiques in spring 2006. There were polos and tee shirts offered with the little rat logo and prices were relatively affordable, I believe everything was under $100. I'm not sure how much this book bag would have been sold for but I got mine on eBay for $30!

After some search and digging through resell pages , I found a matching crossbody bag - matching my little stam. Love the pattern, texture and color. I guess I have a little family now
