My chin and right eye used to itch when I used RCM or Gelish. I think I was touching my face without knowing it during the manicure, or maybe it was just fumes, something evaporating that was bothering me.

I started wearing a thick stretchy headband across my chin an no more itchy itchy.
Strange, but true.

ha ha :D I don't think it's that strange because I keep wondering why the he** do I always taste acetone when I lick my lips my lips after a soak off???!!!

Hi all!Newbie here.

Started using RCM a couple of months ago and love it. It so easy to use, and I've even started to add some gelish to my collection. Just bought some OPI gel too, so I'm looking forward to those results.

I think I'm allergic to RCM's remover 'erase' though because my fingers burn when using it. Pure acetone really thins out my nails, and I know it's a bad idea to use that without any softener.

Anybody got any other recommendations for pain free soak offs? Lol

ARe you soaking or wrapping? You should be wrapping for less exposure to remover. Make sure the piece of cotton is small, only the size of your nail not wrapping around your finger. I cut a cotton round into 4 and even cut the corners off to get the right size.

Then paint under your fingernails and your finger tips with cuticle oil. It helps keep the remover from soaking into your skin. You can also try a little vaseline on your skin as a barrier.

You can also try all this and a different remover like OPI laquer remover or the new CND Shellac remover. They are all similar but you may find one that is less irritating.

Yeah i'm wrapping, but must admit hadn't thought of just cutting the cotton pad to the shape of the nail. Great idea thanks.

Will also do the cuticle oil thing. Thanks so much for the ideas :)

Are you sure you're not allergic to the gel? Do you get any itching when you apply?

And Erase burns, but acetone doesn't? Erase is mostly acetone.

Anyway, some people use a homemade remover. Someone here will have the link; it's acetone, glycerin and a bit of water. Didn't work for me, made my SOGP peel ... I also didn't like the gummy feel of it, but it does work well for alot of people.

Lots of people also use plain acetone. I do; my nails haven't thinned. Are you minmizing contact by using cotton balls or are you soaking in a dish?

Soaking your nails or showering beforehand so they're full of moisture and oiling them after both help with dryness. But if you do soak, then you need to let them dry (at least 1/2 hour) before your new mani for best performance because they swell and shrink. Personally, I remove at night and slather them up with nail cream over night, new mani the next day. You'll have to experiment and see what works for you.

PS Sorry for some repeat; you guys posted while I was typing.

For those of you with the pro LED light -- do you find that you need to cure for longer than the 45 seconds? I was trying the 9 inch heels color with my pro light and even after curing for 90 seconds (2 cycles) for BOTH the structure base coat and each color layer, I'm still finding that when I put on the top sealing/brilliance coat, there's some color being picked up on the brush.

The RCM FAQ says that I should not see color rub off: http://www.redcarpetmanicure.com/faqs-ezp-5.html

What am I doing wrong? I thought I was putting on "thin" layers but maybe it's not thin enough?? I figure after two 45-second cycles everything should have cured though, even if the layer is thicker?

I used to always get that with my dark/bright colored Gelishes and Top it off, haven't noticed it using the couture top coat.

I am new to sogs and have a quick question.

I was using a new bottle of TIO today and the brush got hard. It was inside the bottle (with the cap loose) while I cured the polish on my left hand and right hand. When I went to do my thumbs the brush was hardened.

Am I supposed to soak the brush (in alcohol or acetone) or do anything besides put it back in the bottle after using it on each finger?

I did not think that it would harden sitting in the bottle of TIO.

I ended up using an eyeshadow brush to finish my nails but I think I missed a step.

Thank you!

Thanks!
