I don't want to soak it off yet, and the colour is v dark so don't think I'll get much colour from adding a normal polish on top, so I was wondering if anybody had ever gone back to their manicure a couple of days later and added a layer? I am thinking of adding a layer of glitter either in a pale pink base or on structure gel. If I did this how would I go about it? Would I need to do anything to the SOG already there like buff shine off? Would I need to start from scratch with foundation first or go straight to colour coats?

Help much appreciated!

Thanks

Leah

I usually buff top coat off just because it makes soak off in the end easier then add color coats, or color coat then glitter then and top coat. No foundation coat needed hth!

If you go to drugstore.com use coupon code makeup40 all red carpet polishes are 5.99 and free shipping over $25 :) all their mani/pedi stuff is 40% off actually :)

If wanting the light its $29.99 on sale!

DECISIONS! I was just about to pull the trigger on Amazon for some wishlist polishes. This is a much better deal though. SIGH..........whatever to do. I think I might have to go with the wishlist polishes since I can get RCM at my local Fred Meyer here or there as I feel like it but really is a great deal!

I felt so guilty straying from my normal supply of RCM products (Ulta). But I stocked up last night on the staples.

Out of curiosity, I've seen people post pictures of "2 coats X, 1 coat Y" in the reference thread. But, I'm wondering if people have mixed the colors directly together, and whether there are any issues with separation? For example, I can easily fathom how one color might have a particular curing characteristic, but when you mix it with another color (as opposed to just applying one coat on top of the other), it will change those curing properties. Any advice?

I have never mixed but I have seen at least one person post about it. I believe they mixed with white to lighten a polish. I don't recall them mentioning any issues with curing.

Thanks, have now added my extra layer. The polish I did not like was red carpet manicure (can't remember name - very dark silver almost black) and I used the sensationail raspberry colour I got with the lamp over the top and have created a fab black cherry type colour!

Thanks for help, will update on how well it stays!

Ps that rcm deal looks great - shame the site doesn't delver to UK! Individual rcm colours here cost the equivalent of around $18!!!

I have mixed in several occasions and have found no issues whatsoever. I was sure to keep the layers thin and just cured it under my LED lamp for the allotted time. I haven't tried it with RCM but I have with sensationail and gelish. The "custom" color on my toes has been on for a month with no issues.

Hi sorry to add on to this thread, but I am too new to create my own discussion! been lurking for a while, and love the SOG threads it has been so helpful!

I have used red carpet manicure very dark grey, and with a gelish base and topcoat, but hate the colour!

I don't want to soak it off yet, and the colour is v dark so don't think I'll get much colour from adding a normal polish on top, so I was wondering if anybody had ever gone back to their manicure a couple of days later and added a layer? I've done that before and it works fine either way but removal will be easier (as normal) if you buff off the shine first then add the new color and top coat.

Shellac is the only brand that says you shouldn't mix because different colors cure differently .... they tell you to layer. But many of us mix. Personally, if I'm going to mix in a closed container (like a whole bottle) and shake it, I only mix colors of the same brand together because I am a person who had a bottle of mixed nail polish explode in my hand. So call me extra cautious. :p But plenty of us mix in open containers too, just enough to do a mani.

Yes, those are pretty much the same.

I was curious as to what brands you mixed that exploded in your hand.

Oops, ha ha, totally misunderstood you. It was regular nail polish and it was awhile back, I don't even remember. I only remember it was quite dramatic and I was happy that I held it out over a sink and away from my face!
