I am interested in doing a special order kelly. My question is what do you need to do before asking for a special order item. Usually the SA offer us or do we need to ask her? Also, is special order bag more expensive? With theSO bag, can we choose colors from older season like vert anis?
It is not more expensive. Sometimes it's the only way to get older season colors (even then, you sometimes can't get the color). In every country there seems to be a different process, but my SOs have always been offered to me.
You are so lucky. My SA has never offered me a kelly or birkin despite having puchased many items from the store from time to time. I want a tosca kelly with gold hardware with contrast stitching and my SA told me that was the past season. She didnt offer me to do a special order. Are special order only for VIP customer? Same here re the relationship comment being one key to the equation. I've shopped primarily at the same boutique for 4 years and was just offered to SO. Interesting to note is the original SA retired and the manager was replaced. It was this last SO cycle when the call came asking if I wanted to SO. The other key is $$ spent but that said I am not by any stretch of one's imagination a VIP.

Are SO's only ever offered? I mean, if you have to ask your SA for one, does that mean you won't get one, LOL?
Also, how many SO's do you think each SA gets? Like 1 or 2, or like several? Do more senior SA's get more SO's allotted to their customers?

It never hurts to ask! But I think all SOs have to be approved by the Manager/Director of the store. Not sure about the quota per SA though.
For stores in the US is there a specific time each year when stores place SO's or can they place them at any time? Also, when do stores typically receive the list with available options? TIA

Thanks, yes, I read the thread. It is extremely helpful in explaining the difference between POs and SOs. Regarding the timing for SOs it says that they are usually placed after SMs have returned from Paris. I was wondering whether there is a specific time by when they need to be placed and also when the list of available options is released.
My SA mentioned yesterday that I may be able to place an SO this summer, but I didn't ask many details about the timing since the store was closing (and they are closed today). I know I should just wait and talk to her again to find out the details, but I'm getting really excited about the possibility of doing an SO and can't wait to find out more.
