Thanks TammyD, for this clarification.

I am like you - when I placed my SO in Paris (or at least, at that time, I only knew of SOs and had heard nothing of RAC), I was not given any limitation either. I just told the SA what I wanted, how I wanted it, and she submitted it.

It was only when I came home and told my local SA about it, then she asked me "what version" of SO I placed... the first I'd ever heard about Version 1 etc. I still am not sure what exactly is my "version".. not going to beat myself up over it.

It's interesting to know the different terms that H uses, but I agree - I don't really care about whether I am offered a RAC or SO. It just needs to be what I like and what I want. H can call it whatever they want. Just give me my bag! :p

Absolutely! :D:D

I fully agree with the above. And I know from experience that while some of these Hermes "mysteries" make for an interesting discussion, to your point, there exists no 100% absolute rules/gospel truth that the boutiques fully follow, most especially when it comes to special orders.

In fact, I have had two boutique managers from the same country but different cities (very experienced managers, the other one is one of the "oldest" managers in Europe) tell me completely and wildly different things about special orders and bigger sized exotics. I went back and forth asking "Are you sure, because XX said this?" and each insisted they were right (and they probably were, for THAT store at THAT particular time.)

Oh so true. There have been cases before where customers request for certain colours and one store would insist that it's not ever made by H. And to discover months later, that the colour was made but a custom blend for a very special customer in another country. All outside of the books.

From what I have seen myself, H would make some really special colours or use new skins and drip it into the market place to test customers' responses. If it's well received, in 2 seasons or more later, it'll pop its head out at the podium.

ITA!

I would also say sometimes knowing too much may backfire on you if your interactions with SA/SM are not at that level yet.

This is so true, hanyeu. In addition, humility is the essence when dealing with SA/SMs. It's so much nicer when a customer asks an SA if she/he can *help* with one's heart's desire than going into the store and demand "I want because I deserve it".

Yes, I experienced a very very similar situation.

Years ago, I was told one color/size I wanted was "possibly SO", would take a long time because of the difficult color & size combo, but nothing could be guaranteed. Only for me to find out, the exact bag I wanted was being sold right off the shelf in a nearby country.

I'm sure there was no intent to mislead but it did confirm that the H system and rules aren't fully integrated across all boutiques.

All of you are so amazing with info :D!!.

If I were ever given a chance for a SO, I would want a leopard print bag from H. I think that would be so pretty :yahoo:

Oh, I definitely agree with this.

I think it's also better, for those with multiple SAs across different cities/countries/continents, that it's better to keep what you learn from one SA away from the other SA.

Hey Hermes, need a guinea pig? I'm all yours. Won't even charge you for it! :graucho:;):p

tibaka, I'm with you. It really doesn't matter what sort of order it is > so long as the colour/skin combi that we're after can be fulfilled. It doesn't matter if the delivery takes 6 months, 12 months or 18 months if we know that our lovely stores are trying their best. That said, earlier is always better because of all the price increases!

^^ITA mrssparkles and thank you for the clarification. ;)

pyrexia, mrssparkles, thank you :smile1:. I just called my H store and found out they didnt place my 40 croc . apparently it wasnt offered at podium.

Now this is very puzzling because not so long ago this year quite a few h boutiques in different locations, offered porosus 40's, both matte and shiny, phw and ghw not to order, but already in store backroom eg hidden store inventory to selected clients for instant purchase ... each boutique that called had at least one, some had a matte, some had a shiny, your best bet is to give your exotic wishlist to a store that has a high proportion of clients that buy exotics..

Lol mrssparkles this is so true and if one knows how to spot the 'drip' some v v nice purchases can be made! :smile1:
