Purse Hooks / Hangers

I was at a wedding shower on Sunday and when I arrived there was only one seat left at my table and no place to put my purse. I noticed one lady at the table already had her Coach purse hanging on a purse hook so as soon as I sat down I got out my PH and suspended my new Kristin Coach from it. All the ladies at the table started asking questions about "where can I get one of those great little purse hangers!?" One of them mentioned a story she saw on the TV about a microbiology study on the bottom of women's purses and how filthy and contaminated they often are!

I use mine all the time. I've had people, even waiters, ask me about them and tell me what a great idea they are.

I've never had anyone tell me that they're weird. Even if I did, I would keep using it!

LOL I was reminded of this thread and haven't used one that I had bought, so I brought it out with me and my LV for dinner last week. I was a bit self-conscious of it, and we were really close to someone else's table, so I reluctantly pulled it out but decided what the hell, I'll use it, since the place was so cramped and the waiters were running around everywhere, and there was no place else to put it around our little table.

So I put my bag on it and the lady next to me looked so amazed and got a big smile on her face saying that she had one of those, too! She was pointing it out to her husband, like "See? I'm not the only one!" LOL it was too funny. I felt better after that and will have no future qualms (maybe) about whipping out the purse hook. ;)

My supervisor saw my bag on a hook, then smiled and asked me about the 'hanging bag'. I did not hear the 'bag' part and thought he meant that my computer hung, at which point I gave a mini-rant on how slow the work laptop is. He looked at me oddly before I realised he meant my bag.

I didn't even know they existed until my mom brought one home one day xD.
Now I have it stashed in my purse, just in case. I haven't had the chance to use it yet though.

My FUMI arrived today and I love it!

I'm not really a bangle bracelet wearing kind of girl anymore, but I wore it today just to give it a chance and see how comfortable it is. I probably wouldn't wear it on a regular basis, but I like it enough that I wouldn't mind wearing it every once in a while. Keep in mind that I haven't worn bangles since middle school, so it's really me not being used to having one around my wrist.

I already have a regular purse hook, so the main reason I bought this was so I can hang my purse on doors and other non-flat surfaces that my purse hook can't handle. What I really love is that you really can hang it on anything. I noticed that some hooks don't work unless there is space underneath (like a table or counter). The FUMI doesn't need anything but a place to hang.

To test it out, I hung it on the overhead bin in my office and it worked perfectly! First I hung my black lunch bag by the handles. You can't tell from the picture, but that thing is heavy. Not only did it have my lunch in it at the time, but I also had a full bottle of water (which weighs 3.5 pounds - I just found this out when I finally put it on my food scale last week after wondering why it seemed so damn heavy). The box my food was packed in is about six inches in diameter, so I wish I'd taken a side view photo to show that even though the bottom of the bag was pushed against the cabinet and sticking out pretty far, the bag was totally stable.

Next I tried my cross body bag, which has a long strap. Obviously when it's hanging on my cabinet, it doesn't matter, but I was a little worried about how I would use my pursehook with this particular bag. I used the ring on the strap to hang it. The ring isn't huge either. It's about 1" in diameter, so I wasn't sure if the FUMI would be small enough to fit, but it worked really well! Hee, this is my old lady bag - lots of zippers and pockets!

Although you can't see in these pictures, the underside of the bracelet has a rubber pad to help keep it from slipping. The hinge is made really well. I remember having some cheapie bracelets back in the olden days where the hinges caught on my clothes and pulled threads loose, but this is really well made. There are no rough edges or exposed parts to snag your clothes!

I wasn't sure about the bracelet design itself when I saw it on the website, but once I put it on and looked in the mirror from a few feet away, it was a lot cuter than I thought it would be.

Love it!

In the entire year of 2009, I received only five emails from them and those were to announce the new FUMI or give customers alerts on sales/free shipping.

All these purse hooks comes in various style, some are compact & retractable, some are not. Many might not know these are "Made In China" irregardless of brand & style. Normal basic ones doesn't cost much, you can have a bling bling one adorned with austrian crystals but that would cost alot more. It can definitely hold a normal laptop in bag without much problem. Quite useful if you need to hang your bag, i prefer to put my bag on a chair if possible. It is not safe to hang your bag like that in some countries, vulnerable to thieving criminal that might snatch & go.

I have the Clipa model and I love it. I was at my mom's in Albany yesterday and caught bag expert Pamela Pekerman on the tube talking about using it to avoid germs. She said it was the one to buy and I have to agree with her. It's completely cute on my purse. I wear it as a bracelet sometimes but mostly it stays on my bag where I can hook it up in a flash. And the waiters do like purse hooks!

Clipa all the way. I was at my mom's yesterday in Albany and caught bag expert Pamela Pekerman talking about it. She recommended Clipa. It looks great on my bag but I do sometimes wear it as a bracelet mixed with some bangles. The FUMI looks a bit dated to me. Look around, check out everything everyone has suggested so far. Mine cost $20. Good luck!

I did look at the other brands before deciding on the FUMI. The Hookup is beautiful and I love that it's flat, but I read an online review that said it didn't hold the owner's bag well. I can't remember what the exact problem was because I did a ton of googling while I was researching, but the general gist was that the top part which hooks onto the table wasn't balanced well. My other concern was that since the hook faces out, a waiter rushing by in a restaurant would run into it and knock the hook and/or bag to the floor which defeats the entire purpose of keeping cooties off my bags.

I like the Clipa as a simple bracelet, but when it's clipped onto a bag, it looks too much like you stole a binder ring from the supply closet and attached it to a purse. Someone in one of the other threads said it looked like a handcuff. I watched the video on the Clipa website to see the different surfaces they hung it on and my concern with this one was the C shape of the clip doesn't look like it will allow you to hang a bag on certain things, like thick tables or the back of a sofa. You can't tell in the pictures I posted above since I took them from the front, but the cabinet I hung my FUMI on is curved outward, and it seemed like I wouldn't be able to use the Clipa or the Hookup on something like that.

The other thing I really like about the FUMI is how big the rubber pad is so that it can grip the surface securely. It's hard to tell from online pictures, but it looked like the Clipa rubber pads are smaller and the Hookup doesn't have any rubber.

The picture below is what really convinced me that I could use the FUMI on anything - the other purse hooks seem like they need some space underneath in order to work, while the FUMI can hang against the back of a sofa. If the Hookup or the Clipa can do the same thing, I would totally consider getting them! I made a lot of assumptions about both the Hookup and the Clipa based on the scant information I could find online, so if anyone has these products and can post more detailed pictures of them in action, I'd love to check them out!

Like Jenny O, I LOVE purse hooks, so I'm open to trying others if they can hook onto more challenging surfaces. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm trying to find the most difficult situations for my purse hooks to see if they can handle it! Right now I'm trying to find a curved slippery marble bar counter without any space underneath.

If you have a high end handbag, alot of us with LV, Prada and Chanel are using Clipa. It matches the hardware of the bag really well and is very smooth and pretty. A friend of mine used a FUMI for awhile but the pad is only on one side so you have to check to see which side is up before properly placing it on a table. She stopped using it because she was at a nice restaurant and when she pulled it off the table, it left a big black streak on the white tablecloth. Apparently the pad is black or grey. (Alot of them are.) The Clipa is clear and has pads on both ends so you don't have to worry about it. I would encourage you to look into the Hookup if you like that style better because surely it has some kind of cushioning? Otherwise, it would scratch. Also, I believe that some Lux Link styles can be hooked to the outside of your purse. The Clipa has worked pretty much everywhere I've tried it (even the sink at Starbucks) and I really like it.

I was at a fundraiser dinner tonight and I used my purse hook; another woman at the table was also using one for her purse. I think they are becoming more common and popular.
