I emailed Je'Marie (the makers of the FUMI) and they said that thanks to customer feedback, they have changed the rubber backing so that it is non-marking and they now have the rubber backing on both sides (it used to be on only one side). I really love when companies respond to customer suggestions!
I measured the rubber pad on my FUMI and it's 7/8" x 5/8" which is nice and big for gripping any surface. It looks like the rubber on the Clipa is tiny and wouldn't have as much grip as a result. I looked at the picture of the Hookup a little more closely and I think there is a tiny bit of rubber on each inside point of the heart, but it doesn't look like it would provide very much grip.
I would LOVE to do a side by side comparison of all three in action, but I'm not really inclined to buy two more purse hooks that I don't think I'll end up using.
Thanks to the angle that the FUMI opens at (which seems to handle thick surfaces much better than the Clipa or the Hookup) plus the big rubber backing, I have been hooking it to all kinds of crazy places. I'm challenging myself to find places that the FUMI doesn't work and so far I haven't found anything it can't handle.
Today I hooked it to the top of my head rest, the back of the passenger seat, and the passenger side door with the window rolled up. Every time I stopped at a red light, I put it somewhere else because I wanted to see if it could handle keeping my purse steady while driving through the windy hills. It never slipped once! I'll have to take pictures tomorrow so you can see it in action!
