Purse Hooks / Hangers

That's the reason I don't use them either. The hooks are too narrow (thin). I cringe everytime I see my bag drooping below it and the handle bending on it. That's why I don't like using the hooks in bathroom stalls and fitting rooms either (although most times, I'm forced to). I'm surprised that not many others are concerned about this, too...I notice and worry about it everytime I have to hang my bag on any type of hook

But would you still have this problem if you don't use the hooks on a constant basis? I don't know if I'm explaining this right, but when they're in the store on the hooks, they're hung there constantly for extended periods of time, whereas if you use them when out to eat or whatever, they have a reprieve from being on the hooks, KWIM? I've been putting my purses on fitting room and bathroom hooks for years without a problem, but when I keep them hung on similar hook at home for extended periods of time is when they have a problem.

I found this great article in the general handbag forum when discussing Queen Elizabeth's purses

http://lisawallerrogers.wordpress.com/2009/03/17/whats-in-the-queens-purse/

There is some great stuff in the article about how she uses her bag to signal when she is bored and wants to leave someplace. But apparently the Queen uses handbag hooks too!

From the article:

the Queen is rarely photographed without her purse tucked in the crook of her arm. She carries it with her throughout the day as she moves from room to room in Buckingham Palace. All tables and her desk at the palace are equipped with special hooks on which the Queen may hang her purse so that it may never be set on the floor.

Well... guess it's time to go out and get me a good meat hook :)

ive always wanted one, but didnt understand them....if im at a restaraunt, i just hang my purse on the back of the chair....i feel by hanging it off the table it would be more in the way of our legs and what not....

i would LOve to see pics of your hanger in action!

I understand what you mean, and that is why I actually do put them on hooks when I have to. The only thing is, I don't like to, and I wouldn't want to place them on a hook for the duration of time that I'm in a restaurant. Certain types of handles do better on the hooks (ie. handles on the Garnet) but my Hailey has such a thin strap that it makes me cringe at the "bendiness" when she's on thin hook. Also, with the store displays, although they're hung constantly, they're also stuffed with tissue and have little to no weight in them. Whereas my bags, even though they are not constantly on a hook, have a lot of weight to them. So even if they're on a hook for a brief period of time, they still weigh down and result in a bent handle.

I would not be without mine. I am too often in Coffee shops which have small tables, don't always have spare chairs and quite often have cake all over the floor. I felt a little fussy using it at first but soon got over that :smile1:

Depending on the bag or type of chair, my purse doesn't always stay on the back of my chair.

I have a Hailey and I'd be afraid to put it on a hook (quite heavy when full and I agree with you that the strap is thin for the amount of weight it can hold). I always try to get a booth so my purse can sit on the seat beside me, if not then most of mine (except the Hailey) are small enough to sit in my lap covered by the napkin. I'd also think they would be in the way or likely to get something spilled on them hanging off the end of the table. Before I met you all I had no problem putting my bag on the floor, but no more, not even the no-name ones!

I have used them on many occassion where there wasn't room for me to put my bag on something other than the floor, besides keeping the bag clean, I honestly like it because I hang it so that it is very close to me, which might be a problem if it is put somewhere else, like the back of a chair, so no one can snatch it away easily either... use away!

After watching a piece of bow tie pasta covered in alfredo sauce tumble down the front of my sister's brand new Makowsky vachetta leather handbag :wtf:, I make a point of never putting my handbag on my lap at restaurants... I have not needed to use my purse hook at a restaurant table, but I have definitely been grateful for it at restrooms with no hook...

I carry one of the kind that the hook is hinged and wraps around the disc part.
I dont use it often, but when I have needed it I have been really glad to have it (i.e. in a bar when the table top is sticky and you only have stools to sit on, or when there is no other chair at a restaurant to set it on...)
I have had the most comments from GUYS remarking on the ingenuity of it!! They think it is a great idea; especially when I explain that there is no way in hell I would put my bag on a gross floor, guys have said, "I dont blame you!"

You don't have to hang it on the purse hook by the strap; you can use the hardware and carefully hang it by one of the metal rings.
