Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting and gracious essay about the wayward Prince.
I am still a skeptic and think he is a tool but I also do believe she brought out the absolute worst and the crazy in him.
I'm still having trouble understanding the title "Prince Harry looks like a man desperate for an escape route – we should give him one," why? Isn't multiple 'escapes' what he's been given all his life? See what came of it. :hrmm:

EDIT: There is a comment on twitter from BB about this article, it says "I’m convinced now @CamillaTominey has taken up drinking."

She’s Dame Stella Rimington, who was director general of MI5 in 1992 -please correct me if I’m wrong … I got the date of the coronation wrong in a recent post - (correction May 6), these things happen to humans. :P

And I neglected to name our darling Johnny - but who could miss him?!?

Crikey! So the Douches Of Montesh!tshow were being closely watched not just by at least one very capable military officer but also by multiple current and retired top members of various British Intelligence Services? Somehow I don't think they were there to protect the Snarkles either.

Can you picture the Duke Of Dope absent-mindedly reaching into his pocket for a handkerchief only to be tackled and wrestled to the floor by half a dozen current and former secret agents and one petite elderly lady wearing a blue hat? I would have paid good money to see that.

Thank you for the article.
Very well said:

In America, he’s just, as the South Park creators rather cruelly put it, a “dumb prince”.
The Sussexes aren’t major influencers there. That job is left to people such as the less middle-aged Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner. The Duke and Duchess are just another pair of celebrities in a country where they are two-a-penny.

Any American dream that Harry might have had appears to have gone a bit stale, with the Netflix glow fading much quicker than he may have hoped. His memoir is still among those topping the charts, but that caused a stir because of what it said about the Royal family as a whole, not just him.

In Britain, by contrast, Prince Harry will always be someone. He’s the son of the King, the brother of a future king and the uncle of a future king. And although he may have done his best to destroy these familial ties, they still mean something over here. That’s why Britons have been so reluctant to write him off completely. Positive memories linger of the lad who was a good laugh before he completely fell under his wife’s spell.

ETA:
Did anyone really believe the USA wanted these royals over here? Really? I continue to be amazed that people in the world are that out-of-touch with the American mind-set, possibly the Canadian mind-set. It was/is/will be a stunning miscalculation imo. Gotta wonder what else KC and his crowd have miscalculated :wtf:

I'm wondering this too. Why should the UK give him "an escape route" and warmly welcome him? He's behaved horribly for years. He's had time to mend fences with the family but he just keeps doubling down. He and Meghan abused their staff. They were a cause of unhappiness and stress to the late Queen in her final years and overshadowed her Platinum Jubilee. He doesn't get a pass from me on that ever.

I guess she needed to fill up a column with words and meet her deadline and figured oh, why not be a contrarian? What a waste of a column.

They could stick them with some nannies at one of palaces for ceremony- they don’t have to actually look after their own kids after all :graucho:

It’s just Chaz doesn’t seem to have any interest at all in seeing his own grandchildren and I find that bizarre. He didn’t even say their names in the Christmas speech but did mention their parents - weird.
He's probably tired of them being used as pawns. If he did meet them, he'd have to be wary of his scum spawn and the awful wife merching the pictures. Sometimes, as sad as it is, you have to cut your losses while you can, especially if they're toxic. I don't remember if he mentioned the Wales' children either?
