ALAMAK!!!
Having the toughest time getting my bag repaired.
Went to Neimans in Austin a couple of months ago to inquire about getting my Sharpey tote handles repaired. I was given a rather foolish response by the SA. She said, well... "I'm not familiar with this style, but if you didn't buy it from us, um.. you know, if you bought it from another Chanel store then we won't be able to repair it". I was floored.
Fast forward to today... I called:
SAKS in San Antonio - called, told the manager would have to look at it tomorrow to let me know if they can send it in for repairs.
Neimans - Um... "we can send it in and it will take about 10 -12 weeks, we don't know how much it would cost and we have no way of giving you an estimate."

Skip the dept stores, go right to Chanel. Send in it. I use the Chanel in NYC.

If you get a full refurb-- Will they re-dye the bag for you the same color?

Just wondering if having them re-dye it is an option and if thats included in the full refurb price or if its a separate purchase. Thanks!

I had a similar experience at my local NM! My chanel was originally purchased at a NM in Chicago so i figured taking it to my local one wouldn't cause a problem. It was just a missing screw and the SA actually reccomended I go to Home Depot and look for a replacement!! I ended up taking it to a Chanel Boutique in another city and they replaced it on the spot.

What the?!?! They sent you to Home Depot?!!! Wow I'm speechless.
A little funny but more of annoying.

It is included in the total refurbish price, you just have to specify that you want the leather refinished.

quick question. i went to chanel and asked for the bag to have replate and replace of the hardware. I finally opened it after getting it back for 2 months due to my busy work schedule. i noticed only the chain on the strap was swapped out but my hook inside the bag wasnt replated. Would chanel have a record of my receipt and take the bag back to replate?

They don't replate the metal, they replace it. To replate the metal would be too costly to do on a bag by bag basis. They also replaced your chain, they didn't replate it. If you have the 22k gold plated older hardware, they will likely replace it with the current hardware, so be aware of this.

If you asked for all metal hardware to be replaced when you took it in, that should have included the chains and the turnlock or CC closure (which is what I'm guessing you are calling the metal plate).

Does anyone know when did Chanel stop doing gold plating for their hardware? I recently got a vintage Chanel flap bag that is made in 1991-1994:wondering, do you think it's gold plated? Thank you~

Do you know how much will it cost to redye the bag and the leather straps? I spoke to a SA, she told me to go for the whole treatment for ~280, but I do not want to lose the gold plated hardware(if it is gold plated:graucho:) What do you think I should do??

If your hardware is really really gold looking, then it's likely the 22k gold plated. You can specify for them to not replace any of your hardware, but just to refinish/refurbish the leather. It's all up to you. You can use your favorite search engine and put in "Chanel vintage gold plated hardware" and look at the images and compare those to "Chanel current gold hardware" to see the difference. :)
