Preference for LV made in France/USA/Spain...??

And, yes, "How Luxury Lost It's Luster" may be a very thoroughly researched book, but that doesn't exclude the fact the authors of the book may not know every single detail about the company and it's manufacturing branches.

I know of this because my co-worker has a friend who works at that factory in China, and he has lost respect for Louis Vuitton as a result. Additionally, my brother works for AP Moller-Maersk, and he has a friend (who also works for a logistics company but not AP Moller-Maersk) who knows for a fact that Louis Vuitton and other high-end brands have factories in China because they ship for them.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, I just wanted to say what I heard and know. And even if someone did say something wrong, it's not nice to rant about others in a rude manner, you can always clear something up in a nicer tone.

As I said before, the author of Deluxe states that there are some luxury handbag designers that are deceitful and will make things in China, but put the leather handles on in Italy or France and claim that the entire bag is made in Italy or France. The author, Dana Thomas, is very vague about which companies are doing this. I hope that this is not the case for LV, but I don't think anyone should be called an "idiot" for questioning this, even though one might disagree.

No difference where the LV is made, I have seen so many on here that insist that they only want a LV made in France, makes no sense to me, I have LVs from everywhere, all beautiful and made the same, who cares where it was made! A Louis Vuitton is a Louis Vuitton!

yeah .. I really never understood why people are so bent on needing a made in France bag... it's just a little rediculous to me... I never even check where my bag is from.. never crosses my mind.

Hi, I just talked to the LV store on 5th ave in NYC about this, the SA was very knowledgeable. She explained to me that all the materials for all LV products are manufactured in France. Their other workshops in the USA and Spain, (and one other country I've now forgotten bc I don't have bags from there yet) receive the materials and only cut and assemble the bags. So, again, all materials (fabrics, leathers, etc) are created in France and the "Made in" label just indicates where the bags are assembled. To LV, the quality is the same and there is no difference.

Also, the SA told me that the show pieces are usually made in France, most of the damier pieces are made in (read:assembled) in the USA, the espadrilles and small leather goods (wallets, etc, esp in vernis) are predominantly made in Spain. Because LV has branched out from France and has 4 workshops now, if the current demand for any of the pieces that I listed as predominantly made in one country exceeds what they were able to produce, LV will call on another workshop to help produce more to meet said demand. This is why when I went in I checked out several neverfulls, some made in Spain, others in the USA.

I hope this helped to clear things up and wasn't too verbose or repetitive! This whole question of why some LVs are not made in France was totally bugging me and I thought I'd share my findings :)

thanks moondoggiesbaby !!
thanks for sharing it all with us.
that is indeed awesome to know!
and also it's hard to find such knowledgeable SA..
wow.. she sure do knows a lot..

I used to not care about where they were made. Five of my LV's are made in USA. My SLG are both made in France. The last LV that I got the Delightfull is made in France. When I went to the store to get the bag on the first day of release, as soon as I saw the Made in France, I jumped the gun and got the bag. But in terms of quality I can tell you that there is no difference at all. Both the made in USA and France ones have the same quality. It is a luxury brand and there would be no difference in quality, otherwise it wouldn't sell all over the world!

For bags I prefer made in France, only because LV is a french brand and I just like the idea that my purse was made in the country it had originated from. But for anything else like wallets or key pouches Spain is fine. On a different note, I don't want any of my LVs to be made in USA, I live in the US! I don't want LVs to made in the same place where I live, it's too common and boring.
