Preference for LV made in France/USA/Spain...??

Personally I doubt a US made bag will be as good as French made bag -the USA simply lacks the tradition of workmanship that we have in "old" Europe and I am also guessing (yes) there is less attachment and pride between the US worker and the brand and what it stands for. This should amount to a less loved bag of a lesser quality. Somebody said in this thread that a Toyota made in Kentucky is still a Toyota, but is it really? The Japanese have the toughest quality control in the world and the Japanese consumers have the highest requirement and expectations in the world (I have worked a lot with JP businesses) and there is no way this is propagated all the way down the the US factory worker. No way. Same goes with BMW cars being made in the US --it is well known in Europe to stay away from the US made cars, for example the 3-series, due to all the quality problems they have compared to the German cars. In my opinion, American workers are not as engaged and American customers don't value quality to the same extent.

Then of course it is that emotional thing that, a French luxury product just should be made in France, after all a great portion of that LV price tag is based on that emotional fictive value.

mentally, I understand that made in the US and made in France aren't much different b/c I am sure that LV has QC but I only buy "Made in France". All of my bags are including Galliera. I think LV is getting a great deal on bags made locally (US): they don't have to pay nearly the same shipping costs and don't have to pay the same medical benefits that workers enjoy in France. Then why is the cost of the bags made in the US is the same as made in France?

They save on labor, they save on shipping and they save on customs and they probably enjoy tax and enjoy other benefits and kickback when hiring locally. On the positive side, I think this is good that the USA encourage this since it creates jobs and make sure money stays in the country. A lower price tag sounds very logical but is probably not positive as it would undoubtedly hurt the brand name. It would also hurt sales in other countries as LV is all about travel, right, and customers would simply do their shopping in the US and neglect the local country strores...

i get why people prefer a made in france label...but i have yet to notice a difference myself. i have items from france, spain, and the USA, and no complaints with any. i just got the galliera and thought i would look for one made in france, but in the end could only find made in the usa...decided that theres nothing wrong with owning an LV made in my own country! to each their own...

as for cost, can u imagine if items made in different countries had different pricepoints! the confusion! i dont see the need to change the price of items just because they're made in different countries. would that make people want the more expensive item or the cheaper one? i think the pricing is an overall standard by country. should a bag made in the usa sold in france be more expensive??

anyone know if most of the eLux speedy 25's are made in usa or elsewhere? It's not a big issue for me, just curious. Like many others, I like having my LV made in France but wouldn't choose not to buy a bag based on that alone.

Personally, I only buy bags made in France. I've personally seen how factory workers here work. That's enough to scare me. Ha ha! (Actually, I imagine it's similar there, but I do think because of the history there, the quality control might be a bit better. I just can't see someone working in California having the same "feel" for LV history as someone working in France. I'm probably dead wrong, but I also think LV is a French company originally and I like my bags to actually be from France.

Somehow, "Louis Vuitton, made in the USA," just doesn't seem quite right to me. I'm very fine with leather goods made in spain - spain is known for it's leather goods.

I just ask my SA to get me a particular bag made in France, and then wait. I've never had a problem.

I have never got any "made in USA" from Melb boutique so I have no idea if it does any difference. But still prefer "made in France" as well.

Anyone in Australia got "made in USA" here?

For some reason everytime I ordered from Lv's website, I got a Made in France bag. Everytime I have gone to my boutique or eluxury, I have gotten a Made in USA.

I have bags made in france and in the USA and to be honest My mancrazy (made in France) is being repaired for a broken zipper pull and my trevi pm (made in USA) had a defective strap...I don't think the quality is better either way...people are human and mistakes are made accross the board! I am very proud to carry made in USA bags. They are trained the same and we are supporting our economy by carrying/buying them!!!

I never thought about this before, just assumed that all bags were made in France (naive, I know). Even though I once heard in my shop, that most smaller items were made in Spain.

I just went to check my mono speedy 30, and its made in France. I actually like that (even though im kinda embarassed by it), because thats were LV is from, and when it is on the outside of the bag, it just "looks better" somehow.

Hi!

Does anyone know if there is a huge difference between an LV bag being made in France vs. made in USA...quality wise? I was looking at some threads for the Tivoli PM (new to tPF and hoping this will be my first LV!) and I notice some prefer the ones made in France. Thanks in advance!:smile1:

There is no difference in the quality of a "made in France" versus "made in USA". I myself, however, do prefer "made in France" bags. I guess it's just because LV is a French brand. I know others feel the same way. But, LV is high quality no matter where it's made.
