Prada Bags: Now Made in China for Italian Made Prices."

Prada is now outsourced in many locations. I purchased a Prada bi-fold card holder at an outlet and found the tag that said 'Made in Spain'. I thought perhaps the product was made specifically for the outlet. The next time I went a full price store in Vegas and saw the exact same product in black. Inside tag? Made in Spain.

Spain is fine to me, a lot of great leather is sourced from Spain and the workmanship is decent.

But it gets worse.

At another Prada outlet trip I wanted to see where all the handbags and larger pieces were made. Now there ARE some that were made in Italy, but the 'Made in' tags were all over the place. Bags were Made in Romania and Turkey, men's sneakers were Made in Vietnam, card holders were Made in China. Of course, they all carried the same high margin with only a minor discount.

I do feel that the discount should reflect where the item is made because the labor was obviously cheaper in that country. But it seems they want to rake in max profits and take advantage of the average consumer.

I only see some shoes are made in China with Italian made price >$300, but not purse. Hopefully not extend to leather handbag line.

There are tons of Prada leather handbags Made in China. The bag I started the thread with is a Made in China leather bag. They are also making leather bags in Romania, Turkey, seems I saw one made in Spain recently too, but won't swear to that.

I know where Chinese manufactured stuff stands against Italian made. However, are Turkish products also sub standard?

The issue for me is not as much the "where" but the lengths Prada is going to hide the fact that more and more of their items are not made in Italy. Yet they are making great efforts to camouflage that fact to their buyers while they rack in massive profits due to sub-standard labor costs in places like China and Turkey.

I've not had my own hands on a "Made in Turkey" Prada, so I can't comment on that, but when I was buying the lambskin Miu Miu Coffer bag several years ago, those were made in Turkey at that time and the quality was quite nice, at least with the Coffer bags.

The lengths that Prada is going to misrepresent their products as Italian made while they are being cranked out in other countries, with more and more sub-standard quality, along with higher retail prices makes me livid! Of course as long as people keep clamoring for the "It" bag of the moment, right now it's obviously the Saffiano line, and are willing to pay upwards of $3000 or more for a piece of junk, Prada is going to keep cranking out substandard quality items at insanely high prices and yours truly will continue to scour the secondary market for bags that were made in Italy and were made extremely well. I recently purchased a lambskin Prada bag that's nearly 20 years old, paid around $250 for it and it's beautifully made.

You and me both! I am holding on to my older Prada bags with both fists. Can't wait to see how those Saffiano totes will look in five years let alone twenty. Judging by the amount of complaints after a few months of gentle use my guess is that they will be a decrepit mess.
My Miu Miu bags that were made in Turkey are amazing. I had the Harlequin and a Matelasse. Gorgeous. Of course as I bought them on the secondary market I wasn't paying an inflated price so I could live with them not being made in Italy.

Well then I guess my dream of owning a Prada Gaufre will remain just that :( .... I haven't been confident about getting a pre loved bag yet..

They're around. Check this list of approved sellers. Hubby bought me a gorgeous soft calf hobo from Yoogis earlier this year for a mere $600. It was in perfect, brand new condition. It's still worth running items from these sellers by the Authenticate This tread above. Some sellers have been slipping lately and a few counterfeits have gotten past them.
