^^ I'm not sure, but I don't think so... you can find the same style of bag made in different countries (as I've heard even some of the classic ones at the outlets have 'made in China' tags)... it's the same with Miu miu - the classic 'bow bags' are being made in Italy, Turkey and India and a few seasons ago they were also made in China :smile1:
Thanks for your help. :smile1:

i check mine...BN1802.. only saw the white no. 208 tag but made in tag is nowhere... why??

If you bought it at a Prada boutique, the Made in (probably China), was cut out by the store staff. At least that's the stories that seem to be coming out of Prada boutiques. Not so much the retail stores like NM, BG, or Saks. Seems even Prada is embarrassed about their Made in China bags at Made in Italy prices.... :p

After read this thread, I hurriedly checked my Prada bag which just bought in HK last Sept'11. And surprisingly that it was Made in Turkey. Too bad, I wasn't supposed to pay a Turkey's bag in Italian made price. :( next time, I really need to concern about the "Made in" tag to make sure I pay the bag for a good quality.

Well I just got back from our new Prada outlet here in Orlando. It opened in Nov & I heard about it last night. I will confirm that EVERY leather bag *I * took down & looked at,mostly Vitello Dainos & one tote in soft calf was in fact made in China. I fell in love with BR4420 ($1,050) but could not for the life of me see myself dropping 1k for an Italian bag made in China:weird:
When the SA saw me digging for the tags she confirmed that most popular Vitello Daino styles that Prada carries every year are in fact being made in China. What I was not clear on & I didn't want to ask again was if this was all Prada bags,or just outlet bound ones.
Another observation....a few yrs back every bag that came with the removable strap could be worn crossbody style. It was the one feature that totally lured me into Prada. Now every single style that has a strap with the exception of 2 ( and one IS a messenger) can be worn on the shoulder but the straps are not long enough for cross-body. Long gone are the days of nice, wide leather or canvas straps & of assuming that all Pradas are Italian made.

I walked out & right into Tods. I asked if THEY were still Italian made & the rep said absolutely we are NOT Prada. I had to laugh at that. I do think that they are going out of their way to let people know what to expect at this Prada outlet...I guess they took a hit when Prada opened. After messing with their bags, Tods is STILL very much worth the money.I walked out mulling over a leather G bag purchase. I didn't want to do it in the heat of dissapointment.

I'm done for good with Prada, between being duped by a very well made fake Prada (thankfully my money was refunded) & now this.....I'm over it.

Sadly the fake I received was superbly made, felt right, leather was gorgeous, the little details like the engraving, & cards is what gave it away. If a similar quality bag was available without labels, or engraving, or anything that id'ed it as designer & it was priced accordingly($100-$300) for a China made bag I'd happily buy & carry it. I don't have a problem with China,India or anywhere as long as it is quality & priced accordingly. BUT if I'm going to buy an Italian brand, and pay premium italian prices then darn it I want it Italian made!!

I for one will not be paying 1k -2k for a Chinese bag regardless of how beautiful, and well made it can be.

Sorry for the rant.....I had to let out some steam. Don't even get me going on resale issues.....puuuleeeze! What a headache! I can only imagine people claiming the authentic Prada they just bought from you is fake..look it says made in China!

Uh hmm no, no thank you....I'm done with Prada.:crybaby::rant:

BL0639 vitello daino
BN1713 soft calf
BN4420 vitello daino

Outlet Prada all made in China. I'll list more as I remember, or I'd the style

Also the nice large square messenger with the canvas strap, as well as the similar tote with the long shoulder straps (zipper on the backside)

Thank you for this post lolas, I found it very helpful. :smile1:

You are very welcome Pursewatch. I was lucky to have found & read this thread after my "fake" fiasco. It has been a while since i had purchased a Prada,or visited the Prada thread. In hindsight Im happy things transpired the way they did. Had it not I would've never known about China made Pradas until I possibly owned one. It would've happened real soon since I was determined to buy a new bag.
Thank you PP:)

On a quick note...I also came to the conclusion that since China manufacturers are churning out well made leather bags then there is gotta be non logo, non branded, fabulous bags with nice lines available for a fraction somewhere no?? Just don't know where to look, but I'm very curious.

I'll agree with PP this is possibly the best thing that happened to my $$$$

Very interesting thread, everyone. Makes me ask, what is the true worth of a bag?

I wanted to share the following article, which is old, but well-written and pertinent to the issue at hand.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/23/opinion/23thomas.html

The markup for bags made in third world countries (well, at least parts of China and Vietnam still are) and sold under a brand associated with fine Italian leather and craftsmanship is definitely wrong. They are taking advantage of both factory workers and consumers. But it's interesting to read that we probably have been paying (and still may be paying, despite what the 'Made In' label says) for Chinese craftsmanship for quite some time now.
