jonathan jay - I know you directed your question to Swanky but I'll chime in! I hope Swanky will offer her opinion too. There are several threads comparing rolexes to cartiers. I don't know if you figured out the "search" option on this forum but it might be very helpful to you. From what I've been reading recently, it sounds like the general resale value of rolex is 50% and cartier is 30%. But it depends also on the specific model of watch and condition it is in. Some women favor rolex, others favor cartier and many have both! I have 3 rolexes - a 2-tone ladies (26mm) w/diamond markers, a ss mid-size (31mm)fluted jubilee w/roman mumerals, an air king and 1 cartier roadster with pink face. My plan is to purchase the medium automatic ss ballon bleu cartier in a couple weeks. I'm a little concerned about scratches though. The cartiers get scratches easier and they show up a lot. Something you might want to consider. They don't show up as much on fluted, jubilee rolexes. Hope that helps.

Since she is 26, Rolex in stainless steel would be best.

I have 4 and sold one and all mine are diamond markers.
Plan to get the ladies president Rolex soon :-)

Rolex is like Chanel to me. . . . epitome of class, quality, aesthetics and timeless.
I just haven't seen a Cartier I love is all. I love Rolex and Omega.
I don't care much about resell personally as I don't buy things based on what I may or may not be able to sell it for later. I'd rather give it to my daughter.

Swanky - 2 questions to you if you don't mind!

1) Since you like Chanel, would you or do you think the OP might consider a J12?
2) Interested in your feelings about the ballon bleu (Cartier)

Thanks as many of us here appreciate your fine taste and jewelry expertise!

:blushing: aww thanks!

I'd love a J12, but it's more novelty to me. I'd prefer getting a good staple first before getting one. But I SOOOO want one!

The Ballon is one of the most attractive Cartier to me along w/ the Roadster. SO pretty pretty but so round :smile1: I just still prefer the Rolex and Omega shapes personally.

I think I have the exact Rolex you are considering (w/ roman numerals). I got mine from DH for my 26th birthday and I love it! It is great for events or nice evenings out with my DH. I really prefer the roman numerals for the Rolex. To me (for this model), roman numerals looks more aesthetically pleasing than diamond markers (and I love diamonds!). I also don't really care for two-tone watches either.

The white-gold Rolex is my choice! :D

from these 3 choices, the Rolex stands out the best, and it is timeless. I do love the Omega as well, but am afraid it will age quicker b/c of the dual rose color

:D thanks guys, but im afraid i need one more help, because i think my wife is loving the two tone color of any brand... so once again my choices changed... so sorry.. need your comments once again and they have been very helpful :D

1. is still the omega constellation classic 160th edition in rose gold or yellow gold with steel.

2. Chopard happy sport round with five diamonds the new one (30mm) in two tone rose gold, leather strap (brown croc or pink croc).

3. Cartier Tank franciase two-tone

4. Cartier Tank solo gold with leather strap (surprisingly cheaper of the bunch)

*** all in quartz. thanks.

*** since she wants a different colored watch from her charriol since its all steel

sorry for dragging it too long but need to purchase it before oct.21 thats why im confused on what to look at? thanks in advance for all your comments and please include your reasons for choosing such.

i cant afford the rolex two-tone as of now but will consider it on our anniversary a few years forward. :D

i have a question when buying stainless steel will it go green on you? im allergic to cheapy metals and they go orange on watches etc and turn me green lol will a stainless steel rolex do this same thing?
