As far as chipping- do we know what colors have chipped? It's possible that it's just one color, right? I would think that if there was a "bad" batch, it would be limited to one or a few colors, and not every color, right?
My color is "Bleu de France", and my cousins bag was a Neverfull, her color was "Bleu Clair" and it more "flaked off" than a chip, i'd say.

I don't think it has anything to do with which color it is, to be honest. It's painted on. If you really look at a mono bag - there isn't that much coating on the canvas. As you use the bag and it gets wear (setting it down, rubbing against your body), what coating there is - is going to wear off - and quite a bit. Even glazing is just painted on with a soft brush - which is why it wears off in time on the edges of wallets and other SLGs. So once it wears, if indeed it's on top of the paint (which I have honestly been told it is not), but in the interest of playing the devil's advocate - if it is - it's still going to wear. It's like a clear glaze. It's not like they can put polyurethane on these bags - they would stand up on their own - LOL! It's not thick. It will wear in time. Then, voila - chipping. It's just when. Hopefully, if it's not worn a great deal - and there is great care in taking care of it - it will be later than sooner.

I still really like the mon-mono - but people have been told that the multi-color bags won't chip too - and we all know how that goes. The problem with mon-mono striping - is that it's just more obvious when it does chip than an all over print. It's like the groom items - the yellow striped ones - it was so easy to see when you would get chipping on that yellow strip - or when color started to peel and you could see the monogram underneath. Same thing here.

It's part of the reason when I chose my mono-illustrated zippy and agenda that I didn't pick one with a giant swath of color (like the hot air balloon). I knew it was going to chip - so I just didn't want it to be quite as obvious.

I do really like the mon-monogram items - I think it's just important when purchasing one to go in with your eyes open and realize that this is a possibility, that there is no such thing as a "10 year warranty," and that although some people have great luck with LV customer service, others get told it's "normal wear and tear," and they are not as lucky. There's no knowing down the road which experience you may have, so going into it with the idea that "hey, this is darling - I'm going to get it and love it, but I realize it may chip or peel a little in the future, but I'm going to really love it in the meantime," is probably a better idea than going into it with blinders on thinking it will never happen. If you realize it might and go ahead anyway - you'll enjoy it a lot more and be less apt to be really upset if or when it happens. If I do get a mon-mono speedy (and I'm thinking about it), that's how I'll look at it. I would never pick a mono-mono neverful (well, I don't care for the neverful anyway) because it's constantly rubbing up against your body.

And I probably wouldn't pick a wallet because it gets rubbed against things in your purse. With a design such as the illustrated items - it's not a huge swatch of color - like a strip - so it will chip, but it's less noticeable.

My color is Fushia. I just sent my bag to the closest LV for "assessment". I hope they can retouch it a little at least. If not, well at least I tried and I will not buy any other Mon Mono (wallet). I expect wear and tear in 6 months to a year not in 2 months of barely used not all day not everyday.

Do not accept a retouch up! You get a new bag or a refund !

For what it is worth, there is a clear glaze on top of the paint...I noticed the difference right away when I picked up my first mon mono - the canvas is not the same. It is hard to explain but it has a different look and feel (canvas a lot stiffer) than regular mono. I own a lot of mono so I questioned the leather goods manager at my store right away about it and she confirmed it was the coating on top of the paint.

My 2nd mon mono is exactly the same as the first and nothing like the other mono pieces I own.

As far as the 10 yr warranty, I agree with you that this doesn't exist. In fact both my mon monos came with a care booklet that tells you to expect wear on the paint over time as normal. If this happens to me down the road I will be ok with it as I was aware of this ahead of time and still made the decision to go ahead with my orders.

For those who had chipping after a few uses, I would def take the bags back for LV to rectify...Normal wear & tear is not carrying a bag a few times - that is not acceptable!!!

I agree totally with Charleston Mom, I am not fooling myself into thinking that it will NEVER chip..eventually it's going to wear, and the coating will be rubbed off..but I hope it doesn't happen after a month!

I've decided that if it starts to chip and look horrible, I'll just make it my beach bag..LOL

I've never been told the Mon Mono will never chip, didn't need to be told & that just does not make sense. I have a Mon Mono Speedy & NF that I have worn quite a bit & no problems at all. These latest complaints are not the norm & should not scare anyone from Mon Mono items. I actually welcome my Mon Monos getting a little worn & chipped with age & use, but years of use, not months!

Hopefully these are issues are resolved easily with everyone. I've never had a customer service issue with LV, but whenever I do with whatever other company, I always prepare myself for a fight since sometimes you never know.

After sending in my bag via FedEx to the closest LV store to assess, the SA there told me I am getting a brand new bag in about 4-8 weeks. He stated that mine was "the first bag he's seen chip and that they sell a lot of them in that store, and that he has never seen anything like that happen". He said that chipping wasn't normal and specially so soon, and that if it was OK with me they will be replacing it with a new one. So I am just glad I am getting a new one and won't have to deal with it. Thank you Jesus! That's what I expected from them, nothing less.
