When sweet notes are balanced with aromatic or other notes, it certainly makes the perfume more interesting and tempers the sweetness a bit. I find that sweeter notes read as warm and cozy so they are nicer in winter as compared to the warmer months.

@Lucyblue13, the patchouli in La Fille de Berlin is really not prominent at all. I have a bottle and there are times when I think I prefer Sa Majeste la Rose to it, although they are very different of course.
L'Artisan Parfumeur fragrances were really popular a while ago, and now we don't hear as much about them; not sure why since they are still producing their fragrances.
I'm curious about Serge Lutens - Sa Majeste La Rose, but never saw it for sale on Saks or NM. Where should I buy it from?

Hmmm, good question! When I bought my bottle a few years ago, it was widely available in the standard spray bottle. I went looking for it now, and wow, but it seems to have become a rarity. I found it on the Serge Lutens website, but now it's no longer in the tall spray bottle. Sometime over the last few years, they have transitioned it into the bell jar, which costs significantly more than the 50 ml spray bottle. They did the same thing some years ago with Un Lys, which is a lily fragrance. I bought my bell jar of Un Lys from their website. They usually go on sale for Black Friday.

Anyway, I suggest trying to find a sample or decant to try it out. Maybe Surrender to Chance or the Perfumed Court has decants. It's a rose soliflore, not a dark rose scent. Opens with some greenery and then it reminds me of a beautiful lush pink rose and there's a touch of sweetness in the base from the honey.

Sounds promising about the Berlin. I have such a love/hate relationship with patchouli. I am looking forward to trying a new SL!

As for the L'Artisans, I wonder why that is. I really love several of the ones I've tried. Dzing and Fou d' Absinthe are near the top of my list of favorite scents. I have a bottle of Fluer de Carrote which I also enjoy, and I'm pretty sure most people didn't like that one! Circus animals, absinthe, salad...maybe I'm just a wierdo

Some the older ones are seemingly hard to find right now, especially in the smaller bottles. I think I'm going to get some 15ml decants from Surrender to Chance. I browsed Perfumed Court the other day, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have many SL at all.

Agreed. I prefer fruit, berry, citrus, and florals in the warmer months - or lighter vanillas. Warmer months, sweeter scents, and heavier vanillas.

Except chocolate, which I love any time. Favorite chocolate perfume is Comptoir sud Pacifique - Amour de Cacao. Any chocolate scents anyone can recommend?
Demeter fragrance has some chocolate variations but I haven't tried any, so does Montale. I do recall however a perfume by Zara woman, Chocolate, that was perfect and I always received compliments. I remember once in a subway train abroad a group of guys talking my mother language not knowing I could understand them, saying that perfume was intoxicating and I smelled so good!

I'll have to look up the Zara chocolate fragrance. Thank you! :flowers:

@Lucyblue13, I tried quoting your post above but it didn't work for some reason. I haven't tried the L'Artisans that you mention in your post. The ones I have are L'Eau d'Ambre (a light veil of amber), Seville a l'Aube, and Drole de Rose, which is similar to Frederic Malle's Lipstick Rose, but a bit softer.

I haven't tried Drole de Rose, but I'm eyeing a bottle on mercari right now. I haven't tried any of the others you mentioned. Not sure how similar it is to L'eau d'Ambre, but I do have a sample of Amber Extreme. I tried to wear it a couple of days ago and I had to wash it off. The drydown was 100% incense on me.I don't know what is up, but my nose or my chemistry or something has changed the last few years. Maybe it's because I'm getting older. I used to love incense. I even had a hard time wearing my vintage Jicky the other day :crybaby: I've used Jicky off and on for 20 years!

Speaking of things I can't wear...I have a 1.7 oz bottle of Samsara EDT in the red bottle to whoever claims it first, free of charge. I just want it out of my house. It's been stored in my closet for years. Only been sprayed a few times. No box.

ETA..I will cover shipping to US.
