I wear the Ormaie Yvonne fragrance & I enjoy it.. Our body oils are all different & on me the fragrance
is soft not sweet. I usually don't like sweet fragrances & when I was first introduced to the scent
at Barney's I was attracted to the bottle because of the wood stoppers so I purchased several
when Barney's closed their doors & Yvonne, Toi Toi & Les Brumes are in my collection.
If you like the scent of Cire Trudon Solis Rex candle, you may like Toi Toi..
These scents on me do not last as long as other favorites do, but at that time I was looking for
something a little different.
My favorites are still the JAR scents, Portrait of a Lday, Patou 1000, SMN, Elsa Peretti..
It's an unusual cross section of various notes, but they all work for me depending upon my mood
& always a hesitation about sampling a fragrance via Frangantica & other fragrance sites
as descriptions can be very misleading.

Thank you so much, that is so helpful.

Yes, the bottles look fantastic. They are soooooo her too. I love the one with the amber-yellow 'moon' sliver that smells quite spicy, but the minimalist Toi literally looks like it was made for her and sounds so interesting. What a perfect fragrance for an architect if it's unusual but not gimmicky.

I tried so many fragrances on a few weeks ago they've all got muddled in my head now. - and perfume on me is not the point if it's going to be a gift. Strangely, not sure if I got round to Toi Toi Toi. I only have 2 weeks to choose.

I will add that Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady is so special & works well for so many
& that name conjures up so much in our minds, IYKWIM...
Even the black bottle that houses the body & hair oil is very sleek & think an architect would
appreciate the clean lines..
You'll find what is right.. lots of options to explore

Sephora sold out of L'Heure Verte by Kilian, but I signed up for BergdorfGoodman emails and got a 15% off coupon that I used to buy my perfume. If anyone wants 15% off a perfume from BergdorfGoodman... Bloomingdale's also has a 15% off for signing up for their emails, but all fragrances are excluded. :hrmm:

I did.

Ormaie only uses natural ingredients which I like, but the non-pay-off may be they develop quickly and dry down is mostly vanilla. Generic consensus is they mostly don't project too much and are mostly softly sweet.

General consensus on Toi Toi Toi is apparently smells like 'floorboards' but I have gilded and polished floors in my house and was sniffing and that doesn't make much sense to me, I can't smell anything (I did this while alone BTW).

I wish those of Fragrantica wouldn't read (too much) into the romantic descriptions. "It smells Red" (Yvonne) sounds interesting to me but there's fire red, berry red, red pepper, Christmas red, pomegranate red and so on.

I recently got the Ormaie discovery set and haven’t tried them all (ordered several different discovery sets over the last month so still working through ) but Toi Toi Toi stood out to me. Very enjoyable and evocative. I can see how it’s wooden floorboards & ballet slippers but it’s more reminiscent of art studio for me as described by one of the Fragrantica reviews. Wooden desks and pencil shavings (cedar more than sandalwood), wax paints and resin, vanilla in the background. There’s meant to be incense and perhaps there’s a touch, but it’s not smoky at all. Vanilla gets more dominant over the woods in the drydown. Potentially cloying in hot weather but otherwise the vanilla is balanced well.

You’re right of the Ormaie fragrances I tried, they do all have a variation of vanilla drydown and have low projection.

Thanks so much, so well described and such help.

I am sending her a bottle through Liberty, London this week. I think/hope she will enjoy. :winkiss:

Looking forward to what you think of the other perfumes you got in your discovery sets! Thanks for such a great description.

Just bought a couple perfume books.

The Perfume Companion: The Definitive Guide to Choosing Your Next Scent by Sarah McCartney and Samantha Scriven
Perfume: In Search of Your Signature Scent by Neil Chapman

Anyone have suggestions perfume books they love; or that aren't worth the money?

I don't own any perfume books yet, although I've been meaning to check out the well known book by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez. I think it's called Perfumes: The A to Z guide.

That's the only one I'm interested in checking out.
Yes, I have been curious about that one for a long time. Just haven't gotten around to getting a copy.

I am also interested in the upcoming (Feb 2022) book on Guerlain. I hope it has beautiful pictures and illustrations, in addition to the history of the house and the perfumes. I envision it as more of a coffee table or collectors book, in my mind.

Perfume related moment I thought fragrance fans might find funny:

My fiance was watching a college football game on TV last weekend and I was mostly scrolling on my phone and not paying attention, but I thought I kept hearing references to the classic Chanel fragrance, Chanel No. 5.

Turns out a player on the Wisconsin team is named Leo Chenal, and his number is indeed #5.
