I am in a serious sampling mood! Sample of Cruz Del Sur II by Xerjoff is on it's way to me. My Imaginary Authors samples arrived today, and I'm excited to test them.

@Purses & Perfumes Posting here, to not get the Perfume of the Day Thread off topic. My latest samples:

Xerjoff Lira Eau de Parfum
MEMO Sintra Eau de Parfum
Parfums de Marly Meliora Eau de Parfum
4160 Tuesdays Silk, Lace & Chocolate Eau de Parfum
Diptyque Do Son Eau de Parfum
Diptyque Eau Duelle Eau de Parfum
Diptyque Eau Rose Eau de Toilette
Goutal Paris Rose Pompon Eau de Parfum
Histoires de Parfums 1804 George Sand Eau de Parfum
Ormonde Jayne Ta'if Eau de Parfum
Rogue Perfumery Champs Lunaires Eau de Toilette

Good plan to move to the chat thread, @JenJBS! That's a nice lot of samples you have there. I'm not familiar with some of them, but I do see your perfume interests reflected in the soliflore rose selections, and I think some of the others might be vanilla-centric?
Do you like tuberose? Do Son and Champs Lunaires are both tuberose-centric perfumes. I have samples of Do Son, but am curious about Champs Lunaires from Rogue.

What do you think of Do Son? Any other Diptyque scents I should get samples of?

I love vanilla! Probably my favorite scent. I seem to go for gourmands and the soliflore rose scents. Still new to perfumes, and finding out what I like, and don't. I like orange, berries, peach, almond, and some tropical fruits. So far moss/oakmoss, hay, bamboo, tobacco, and coffee are definite NO's. Any notes/scents you don't like?

I really liked Amouage Love Tuberose, so I wanted to try a couple other tuberose scents. Any you'd recommend? I'll let you know about Champs Lunaires.

Just got the notification they printed the postage label, so the box of samples should ship tomorrow. My three Kyse perfume samples are on their way already, and so is the Xerjoff Cruz Del Sur II sample.

It has been a while since I tried Do Son but I remember it as being more or less a straight up tuberose scent. It's a good tuberose fragrance, especially for tuberose lovers, but for whatever reason, I did not feel compelled to seek a full bottle. I haven't sampled the Diptyque line extensively, but I remember liking Tam Dao and Eau Rose. To me, a lot of the Diptyque scents are nice and well made, but for whatever reason, so far, I have not found one compelling enough to pursue a full bottle. That said, if someone gifted me one of these Diptyque bottles, I wouldn't say no. Their L'Ombre dans l'eau and Philosykos (fig) scents are very popular, and one of my friends is a huge fan of Eau des Sens which is an orange blossom. I haven't tried those yet.

As a vanilla lover, you should try to sniff the new Shalimar Millisime Vanilla Planifolia one. I've heard that it's very vanilla forward. Regarding notes I don't like, I'm not into very sweet, fruity patchouli (fruitchouli) scents. I do like some fruit -- peach, apricot, plum and citrus notes -- but prefer them skillfully interwoven with other notes rather than just as straight up fruit. Aquatics are mostly a miss for me. While I am fond of resins and balsams, last year I had some difficulty wearing very dense, resinous scents -- it's not an issue of not loving the smell, but more one of having some mild reactions to some of them, like a sniffly nose or watery eyes (thankfully the reactions only lasted for a short while after application).

My favorite tuberose scent is Frederic Malle Carnal Flower, and from among vintage scents, I enjoy Michelle Balenciaga extrait. Michelle is discontinued though. Robert Piguet Fracas is a benchmark tuberose scent. I only have it in parfum and it's fantastic, but also a big perfume. I just apply a few drops though and I like to wear it more in the summer when the warmth seems to make the notes shine. However, Piguet's perfumes are not that easily available for sampling. You could check out L'Artisan's La Chasse aux Papillon, which is a lighter, airy take on tuberose (available in Sephora I think). Estee Lauder's Tuberose Gardenia is excellent, but it's more gardenia than tuberose. And I just realized I still haven't tried Tubereuse Criminelle! I am so far behind on my sampling!

I hope you have fun sampling and keep us posted.

Thank you so much for all the helpful information! :flowers: Much appreciated.

With purses, perfumes, jewelry, and clothing some Houses we just connect with, and some we don't. But at least you know that about Diptyque. I am hoping to get a sample of Shalimar Millisime Vanilla Planifolia. I don't hate patchouli, but don't really like it much either.

I get what you mean about dense, resinous scents. I have that reaction to moss/oakmoss, so I'll no longer even get samples with those notes. It's a good thing I'm not real fond of them anyway.

Thanks for all the great ideas on tuberose. Once the sale is over (with the crowds) I'll head to Sephora to see if I can try L'Artisan's La Chasse aux Papillon. I was hoping to buy my full bottle of L'Heure Verte online during their sale (when I can access it on Tuesday), but they sold out. I'm guessing they won't restock before the sale ends on the 15th.

Have fun catching up on your sampling, and I look forward to hearing what you think of your samples.

Thanks! I will.

I just ordered samples of:

Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
Indult - Tihota
Montale - Roses Elixir

And I'm officially banned from buying any more perfume samples until at least 2022...

Any reviews of Ormaie's fragrances would be welcome, particularly looking at Toï Toï Toï.

The name is supposed to be lucky for ballet dancers before performance. That's the airy, fairy story. Actually it's real origins are spitting in the eye of the devil (the evil-eye) in case anyone has wished the person bad luck and goes back to ancient times in the Middle-East.

Any comments on any of the fragrances would be great, they all sound wonderful, I just like some bottles better than others (I know  ) The bottle would be perfect for a friend's bathroom and it's her very big B-day soon.

Honestly, I have not tried enough from Diptyque -- it might well be that if I sampled a few more, I might find something I connect with enough to purchase a full bottle. For example, I forgot to mention their 34 Boulevard Saint Germain, which I have been wanting to sample for a while. However, the thing is, there are too many perfumes and too little time... so I have to pick and choose what I focus on, and if the first couple of samples from a house aren't compelling, I tend to shift my focus elsewhere.

I have a sample of Indult Tihota somewhere -- it's a well-regarded vanilla scent. I must try it again soon.

Sounds smart. So many perfumes, so little time - and money. Same with bags. Like you say, we have to choose what to focus on.

I wonder if a trip to Vegas to test scents for free in the shops would pay off in the long run in not having to spend so much on samples. It's a six hour drive, but the nearest city with decent shopping.

I did.

Ormaie only uses natural ingredients which I like, but the non-pay-off may be they develop quickly and dry down is mostly vanilla. Generic consensus is they mostly don't project too much and are mostly softly sweet.

General consensus on Toi Toi Toi is apparently smells like 'floorboards' but I have gilded and polished floors in my house and was sniffing and that doesn't make much sense to me, I can't smell anything (I did this while alone BTW).

I wish those of Fragrantica wouldn't read (too much) into the romantic descriptions. "It smells Red" (Yvonne) sounds interesting to me but there's fire red, berry red, red pepper, Christmas red, pomegranate red and so on.

Yeah, sometimes the reviews/descriptions on Fragrantica are... interesting. I'm always baffled by the conflicting descriptions. I mean, if one person says, "I love the incense note" and another person says, "I hate the incense note" that's expected. People like different things. But when one says it smells like raspberry, and another says it doesn't smell like raspberry at all... Huh? Especially when the raspberry is one of the main notes listed.

For it to smell like floorboards I'd assume a wood&wax scent.

Good luck!

I wear the Ormaie Yvonne fragrance & I enjoy it.. Our body oils are all different & on me the fragrance
is soft not sweet. I usually don't like sweet fragrances & when I was first introduced to the scent
at Barney's I was attracted to the bottle because of the wood stoppers so I purchased several
when Barney's closed their doors & Yvonne, Toi Toi & Les Brumes are in my collection.
If you like the scent of Cire Trudon Solis Rex candle, you may like Toi Toi..
These scents on me do not last as long as other favorites do, but at that time I was looking for
something a little different.
My favorites are still the JAR scents, Portrait of a Lady, Patou 1000, SMN, Elsa Peretti, Roja Dove (Diaghilev)
It's an unusual cross section of various notes, but they all work for me depending upon my mood
& always a hesitation about sampling a fragrance via Frangantica & other fragrance sites
as descriptions can be very misleading.
