I've read of a couple people's clips breaking. Is this common? I'd like to invest in 14k clips, as I like those better than ss ones. It makes me think I should purchase clips from an authorized dealer, rather than our trusted ebay dealers. Ideas? I do a lot of bracelet rearranging, so they wouldn't just sit. Thanks for any opinions.
The hinge onn the clips is pretty small and made of soft metal, so you can imagine that they can't take a lot of stress. Mine broke after being opened and closed many, many times while I experimented.
If I may make a suggestion for those of us who like to play around with our beads -- put the beads on the bracelet without the clips until you have the beads the way you want them, and then, and only then, put on the clips. That will save them a lot of wear and tear. I think mine broke from simple over-use. I certainly didn't want to suggest that they aren't good quality. They are. But I don't think they were made to be opened and closed 75 times.
The other thing to be careful of is not to stress the clips at the end of an over-full bracelet. If you try to close a clip right at the end and there isn't enough room, of course the clip will bend. I did that a couple of times.
I've gone through my large assortment of beads and have settled on three more bracelets, using as a base the beads I already have.
One will be my existing animals and lime green Muranos and lime green crystals with silver beads - a fun bracelet.
Another wil be the Rainbow design I saw in all the jewellery shops when the Pandoras came out here in BC last Christmas. It's another fun design, perfect for jeans. It just so happens I have all but one of the exact muranos used in that bracelet. I bought way too much Murano in too many colours, and I didn't know what to do with such an eclectic and ill-considered mish-mash -- but now I have the perfect answer.
The last one will be silver with lots of moonstones and various white crystals.
Those three bracelets will use up most of my beads, leaving me with a few matching colours for my lariat. And that has to be it for this year!
