Overheard Hermès

I think my local one does as well. The legal issue being money laundering. (If someone knows better, please feel free to correct

ETA: however, I did hear someone at Chanel arranging for a bank wire. And I believe Dior does this too. So, perhaps Hermes does as well?
We asked about wire transfer at Hermes once. They said doable but they would need an approval from corporate office

I always wondered that, if you can afford a $75k bag why would you have to split the purchase between cards?
For us- I think most of our credit cards (even without much of a limit) only allow a $40-44k charge per transaction. I can use the card twice but always worried it will get locked up if I do a second transaction—so 2 cards if spent is over 40k (usually Hermes) I always split them also, no idea why 😛 (The exception being Amex for us)

Recently purchased furniture and cc wouldn’t approve entire purchase but approved two transactions each totally 44k. Bank didn’t call nor inquire. 🤔

Interesting! I suppose you're right, and it's for security purposes on the credit card side.

I was in the store the other day waiting to pay and watched a woman pay a $20,000 bill with cash. I’ve never seen so much cash in my life. She walked out with one big box so it must have been something spectacular!
My boutique has a limit on cash transactions.

Reminds me of one of my first store visits a woman was checking out next to me paying for a mini Lindy, chypres and a rodeo. She asked her SA to pay 5k in cash and he politely said of course but I can't accept more than that. Seems like she knew the drill, as she quickly went through the motions and left happily with her purchases.

Had to wait the other day (there was actually a line at my store - first time I’ve seen that). I was kind of surprised by the number of people buying a belt or a scarf who then asked how to get a bag. Answer I heard was “you can make a wishlist but it’s a 2-3 year wait for bags.” I heard this several times over and I wonder if this is the new line due to the lawsuit. In the past I’ve only heard “no bags, they’re super hard to get” without the offer to take down wishlist info.

Not a H store, but overheard conversation mentions Hermes, about a nearby H store. (10+ years ago)

Soon as they seated us at a restaurant in Wynn Las Vegas, I noticed the family seated right next table. Perhaps they did not realize I could understand but they were speaking rather loudly in Korean. The son, who just turned 16 attends a prestigious boarding school and the parents and the younger kid came to see him from Seoul and also make a family vacation out of the visit. It was strangely entertaining to observe the lifestyle of such family, as I grew up in a typical Asian immigrant middle class home, raised by parents with limited income and time to spare.

The dad of the family is a CEO and also was lucky with games that night. The couple was also proud of the son who recently won an academic achievement award.

Mom: "Honey, we have to go to Hermes after dinner."
Dad: "Huh?"
Mom: "Don't you think we have to get him something?"

I am starting to wonder what a 16-year-old boy would like from H. When I think of H back in those days, it was silks and leather. Neither category seem to fit a teenage boy. I mean, he did not feel the type to follow fashion style of G Dragon and ask for a HAC.

Mom: "Mommy would get you a shirt. Wouldn't you like that?"
Boy looks so so.
Mom: "We need to get him a shirt. A Hermes shirt. We are going to go there straight after dinner."
Dad: (Looking somewhat unhappy at this point) "How are we going to get there? Do you know where it is?"
Mom: "It's not too far."
Dad: "So where is it?"
Mom: "I'm not sure but it should not be far."
Then she started to mumble something, about how it would be nice to see certain things, so I started to think the lady is using her son as an excuse to visit the store. And also thought, should I tell her she should stop eating right now because Encore store would be closing soon.

Dad really seems unhappy now he has to go to this "shirt" place.

Son: "Dad, can we go to Aston Martin tomorrow?"
Dad: "Aston what?"
Son: "It's a car."
Dad: "What's this Aston?"
Son: "It's what 007 drives. I would like one."
Dad: "How much is that?"
Son: "It's not cheap. But I would really like one."

Casino host arrives at the table around that time, asking how everything is and so on. Dad mentions Aston Martin and demands a limo to take them next morning. He also complains about the dinner bill, which he thinks, at $280 is very overcharged. I secretly giggle as I hear about how the meal is actually comped and his complaint is about how he still has to tip the servers. Not just any amount he would like, but 20% of what the check says, hence thinks meal is overpriced.

Mom looked sad when leaving, as they were NOT heading to that "shirt" place, according to her husband. He seemed relieved to not having to go to the shop where they sell expensive shirts. I wondered how he would react when he realizes the car his teenage son (who btw does not have the driver's license yet) costs more than his own car back home.

While I was having my cappuccino out on the garden at Madison, I saw this lady try on the new sac a malice. And then this older woman who was not acquainted with her happened to be standing next to them leaned over to look at the bag and tried to touch it. I was mortified! And it was almost funnier that I couldn’t actually hear them, only see their expressions lol!!

Not sure if this counts as “overhead” since I could only see them and not hear them through the glass, but it was pretty funny.

Oh my goodness what did the lady who was trying on the bag do?!
What's with people touching things that are not theirs anyway?

She kind of just looked at her and then turned a little more the other way, away from the nosy lady lol.

One time at a conference a random stranger had the audacity to reach out and touch my Birkin, move it slightly back and forth, and say “cute bag”! I was so stunned I didn’t know what to say, and the speaker was talking, so I just moved my bag closer to myself.

These are the same people who pat your stomach when you're pregnant. No boundaries.

A visit to Encore store during another Vegas trip. Also many years ago.

Perhaps it’s just my luck but that store SAs are not welcoming or friendly like rest of Vegas SAs in other shops.

There was this single SA, with very sad face. But when I actually want to buy something, she starts to warm up. Few minutes later, I’m paying for a shawl and a 90 silk.

SA asks if I want to see a bag. What kind, I ask. She tells me they have a Lindy in flamingo. I am a PINK person but not a Lindy person, so it was a no.

Another customer walks in, looks around and asks.

“Where do you have bags?”

SA points to display shelves, where there are few unpopular bags. Customer seems disappointed.

“Do you have any other kinds?”

We all know the answer to that question.
