Good for you and congrats on your amazing accomplishment.
yes, people who are thin do not enjoy food or drinks ime.
What worked for me so far is to give up edibles and alcohol for obvious reasons.
Cant have fun and be within normal weight range. So unfair.

How can you be smaller than size zero? Children sizes?

To get back to Oprah, on her special, she said that she is not hungry at all and no longer thinks about food.
I get it. How can one resist pastries, martini, pastas?
The drug also reduces the urge to drink as well.
It really is a wonder drug so far..
I remember being at a party around 2008 and a doctor friend was telling us about a drug that was coming online that would make people not want to smoke but it could have other benefits, too. I wonder if they are using these drugs for smoking cessation?

I can imagine a drug making Oprah not hungry. But you don't want to stay on that stuff forever. So then when you go off it you will find food very appealing again. I believe a lot of people regain the weight. Oprah looks better than she's ever looked but I wouldn't be surprised if she gains some of the weight back.

Smaller than a size zero - it annoys me when she talks about not being able to find jeans small enough to fit her, while I am struggling to lose a few pounds.

According to testimonials from people who used the drugs and stop, they rapidly gain weight back. However, if they stick to a healthy lifestyles, they will regain minimally.
Charles Barkley for example disclosed that he regained about 35 lbs after loosing way over 100.
One thing that he mentioned was his doctor declaring, do you know fat old people?. So rude.
In fact, when you get older, you naturally lose weight.
I hate listening to people bitc%ing about being too skinny. Girl, come stay with me for a week and watch yourself gain effortlessly.
A friend of mine was wheelchair bound for a short time, and managed to lose weight. Yes, she has a fast metabolism but unlike me who turn to food in time of stress, she stops eating completely.
In your friends case, it sounds like bragging and competitive. Typical mean girls crap.

Oprah stated that she felt healthier and could run faster. For her, it was mainly about health and performance
If she likes it I love it for her.
As far as side effects from the drugs, thyroid and other metabolic issues including pancreatic disease. So one needs to be monitored closely.

I guess Oprah had a tv special recently. I saw a clip from it. she said she does other things (walking or running?), doesn't just rely on the drug. So maybe she can maintain the weight loss or most of it.

My skinny friend - I don't think it's a mean girl thing. She will actually say sometimes that she is bigger than me. I wonder if there is some anorexia going on. She cooks a healthy dinner for her husband every night and seem she eats some of that but many (probably most) days that is her only meal. She is getting up there in age and while skinny may be good for clothes, it's not necessarily good for the face.

After O went off her 5 month liquid diet and wheeled out that wagon of fat, she started gaining weight. She said that whatever she put in her mouth, even her chef's low calorie broccoli added pounds.

Anyone remember that? It stuck in my head so clearly.

Maybe it's different now with this new drug and older age. We'll see. Unless she never goes off it. Is that possible?

Yes, diabetic have stayed on for 20 plus years.
She had stabilized her weight prior to the drug though.
However, she no longer has cravings.
She looks very happy.

My question wasn't clear.

O said when she went off her liquid diet, she rapidly gained weight with every meal, even low cal meals prepared by her chef.

Will the same happen with this medication, or is there a difference when starving oneself on a liquid diet and then trying to maintain the weight (which was impossible for O) or does not having any appetite or cravings help in not having a rapid weight gain when finally off the drug.

Can a non-diabetic stay on it for a lifetime, I wonder.

Time will tell.
There are severe side effects for some but for the morbidly obese, it might be a calculated risk.

There are already lawsuits.

I’d be inclined to say it depends. Mostly weight loss and gain comes down to calories in/calories out. If you’re taking in fewer than you burn, you lose weight. Take in more, gain weight. Then factor in an individual’s chemistry and what you’re eating. Some people naturally hold more weight, and some foods incline people to do the same.

I’m not sure what Oprah was doing for physical activity at the time she was eating her low calorie meals. She may be one of those people who just gains weight no matter what due to body chemistry and makeup.

So as with any weight loss plan or drug there will not be a one size fits all result before and after.

As for staying on the drug for life, it comes down to monitoring side effects and lab work. And hopefully people using it are doing this. The drug is still fairly new so I guess time will tell if there are any long-term use issues.

I assume Oprah loves food...if she has lost her cravings, has she lost the pleasure of eating great food? will she be willing to give that up for the rest of her life in order to look good and be healthier?

If the drug as a side effect causes nausea, feeling of fullness, and other assorted GI issues, eating food is no pleasure and you really just lose interest. I have bouts of these kinds of GI issues not related to weight loss drugs and I don’t care much about food when my system is misbehaving.

She’s looking pretty amazing and is probably really happy. She can likely enjoy food here and there. I’d imagine the trade off after a lifetime of struggling is worth it to her.

I'm just ticked because I have finally managed to lose about 10 pounds and people probably think I took it. I just gave up almost all processed foods and quit snacking entirely. I did notice the thinnest people I know just don't eat much. But I can't do that. I like food and I married an Italian who is an amazing cook.
This is very encouraging, thanks for sharing! I'm always worried about the side effects of medications and extreme diets. Ozempic seems to have a long list, but Oprah looks good these days!
