Do we ever really know what we are purchasing when we purchase a handbag used? Someone with the flu might have stored there snotty tissues in the bag, someone could have put the bag on the floor in the bathroom, another girl could have held the bag right after having sex with her left hand...ect ect ect. Used bags have all kinds of DNA on them....EVOO might be the least of your worries

LOL! I agree.

I also agree with Sophia. The owner of the bag can do what she likes with it.

And let's not make this a collection competition, people  It doesn't matter who is a "seasoned" collector and who isn't. I didn't know LV collecting was so competitive

Nobody had a bad reaction to the shining monkey. There was that big "thing" because the ownder was shilling her stuff here, pretending to be a regular person. Many other people, including myself, have used shining monkey and it is such a wonderful product. It did not darken the leather AT ALL like appleguard does and everything is perfect. I'd actually recommend it.

If anyone is curious, do a search. You will see that it is not a bad product....just dishonest owner.

Applegaurd darkens patina?!?!?!? ack!

I honestly would not use Olive Oil on a bag in a million years. I think I would go with something specifically formulated for leather like Appleguarde conditioner or spray, or another leather product. My concern would be that olive oil, as it is an edible oil, might rot the leather. I mean, you can't store edible oils forever, eventually they will go rancid. So... what will it do on the bag?

As to the light patina vs. darker patina argument... I want to cry when I see my brand new virgin vachetta starting to patina! I love new, white vachetta! I couldn't give a rat's patootie if someone in some part of the world looked "down" on me for having new vachetta. To me it says, "I can AFFORD NEW BAGS!!"

I really don't think bags with light vachetta look fake. If you know your bags well enough, the fakers tend to use plasticky looking slightly patinaed fake vachetta on their bags. I see plenty of fakes with a "tan" at my local Walmart! Their straps are usually peeling apart as well!

That's a good point about an edible oil going rancid. I guess the seller does not care, why would she? It's not going to be her bag.

This is a very deceptive practice, espically for someone who sells on ebay and has a decent amount of feedback. People want to trust that feedback. Well, just another example of crappy ebay sellers.

Did the seller say that she would not disclose the fact that she used olive oil to speed up the patina process? I don't see that anywhere, so I would not assume that the seller would not be honest and not disclose that fact.

Someone mentioned she started doing this to her bags 3 years ago. I think it was bagsnbags - she didn't say she has had any trouble with this method.

I think this was very rude. I see your new to the boards...you might want to try and be a little more gracious in your postings.
A little graciousness goes a long way.

In her ad on ebay it says nothing about the bag being oiled with olive oil. Is she going to ad that in? I'll watch to see if she does.

I also think it would take a bit longer than 3 years for the oil to rot out the bag. All I can say is I would want to know. Be honest, disclose it in your ad. That way you make an honest sale.

Oh please. No seller discloses everything that has ever occured to any given bag. What if I spilled some milk inside my bag but was able to clean it out. Am I supposed to say "In 1997 I spilled a teaspoon of milk in my bag" and "in 1998 I washed the canvas with a alchohol wipe" ect ect ect. The only way anyone can be absolutely sure of what they are buying is to buy at retail in the boutique.
Just my opinion.

Yes , it's me...!!!
I don't plan on selling my bags ever...
I didn't tell people to use EVOO, infact I was hesitate to tell people that because it's kinda weird and against what people believe..No oils etc..

It was my experiment and I didn't really care , it's my bag..I am crazy like that. I experiment slowly by applying in insdie leather tab behind the pocket flap. From there I saw the differences..while back I spray bit of water to that tab to make sure if it will leave water marks..it didn't so...I figure I could do it with the rest of the bag. I have no problem with it. I have nice patina (of course the handles are darker)

It's very simple thread for people who loves to get patina for their bags. Some people don't want their bags get patina...
It's personal choice and I don't think we need to argue about it.

We all here because we have the same interests but it doesn't mean we have to have the same opinion.

you need to lighten up a bit :flowers:
livinglux sells a ton of bags on ebay, she may just keep the ones she is in love with...lets see your collection :D
she also never said she had a ton of bags or she was a "seasoned collector"
seriously please be nicer to people, or they might take your username literally (bagSNOB) :shame:

Please reread her post. SHE is the one calling people with light patina novice collectors.

Agreed!!!

So you could care less if you bought a bag on ebay that had olive oil rubbed into it? Then several years later it rots out? And you spent good money for it?

What about if you have a food allergy? Some people do. I just think it's gross to sell a bag with olive oil on it.

For personal use, fine. For sale?.....you go buy it Selena. I know I wouldn't, nor would I let a friend buy such a thing.
