i mean you can call me a 14 year old LV newbie with 4 bags. i dont think i lack more knowledge than lets say a 54 year old seasonsed collector...actually i know i dont.

Hey Sophia_lv 1992, I'm sure you didn't mean that comment to be insulting at all but I think we shouldn't make blanket definitive statements in forums where there are A LOT of people with A LOT of different opinions. Who knows but there might be a 54 year old seasoned collector here who might know one more thing than you about LV and they could be really insulted and we don't want that right? Not trying to cause trouble! Just trying to point something I noticed. Hope you appreciate the comment.

BabyLauren - did you just make a pun???

i understnad the comment mas.. :D

but i just dont think its right for babylauren to say a more seasoned collector can no more than a newbie, but i dont know what she means by newbie: a person with few bags or a person with a lack of knowledge of LV

It really dependson the situation I guess and what "LV knowledge" is considered. Someone might have a lot of official knowledge and someone might have a lot of word of mouth knowledge and both might not be the same. It's interesting to know both though!

and if she means newbie as few bags to none: a lv addict who knows everything about lv and doesnt have even one bag can very well know more than a seasoned collector who has a ton of bags but lacks knowledge on the prestigous brand

Sophia - I'm not mad at anyone and I didn't take it that you were mad at me. My reason for posting in this thread was for the simple reason - I did not want anyone to ruin their bags by using an "unproven" method for darkening leather. We all know these bags cost a fortune.

I would consider you a novice collector. You only have a few bags and are young. Light patina to me says you do not have to carry this bag everyday because you have plenty of bags. JMHO

I guess I could be considered a novice collector. I mean, I've only owned 24 LV pieces, not including resale pieces. If we count resale pieces, then in that case I've "owned" well over 50 LV's in my short life span. And well, I guess you can't count the 2 LV pieces I bought for my fiance, or the 3 pieces I bought for my brother. But hey, who's counting, right? So yeah, I guess I could be considered an LV novice

Do we ever really know what we are purchasing when we purchase a handbag used? Someone with the flu might have stored there snotty tissues in the bag, someone could have put the bag on the floor in the bathroom, another girl could have held the bag right after having sex with her left hand...ect ect ect. Used bags have all kinds of DNA on them....EVOO might be the least of your worries

Selena

SERIOUSLY - the bags I sometimes get for resale are TRASHED with corroded (I say molded, others say corroded) hard wear, GUM on the bottom, dirty, musty canvas - I clean them up. If olive oil makes the bags nicer, softer, cleaner, and more even - who's to tell me NOT to do that? Please

I notice the same women taking every chance they can to attack me. It's flattering really, but it's getting old.

I think some of our body lotion or hand lotion has some sort of oil, alcohol etc..so either way our bag can get exposed more to "harmful" chemical from our lotions.

I think hand lotion is not good at all for vachetta, as evidenced by the many bags seen on Ebay with dirty handles, especially right at the top where the handles are most carried. I believe that hand lotions not only darken the vachetta but cause it to become dirty before its time.

I have to laugh that one of the links is to a website on "frugal living." I'm not laughing at your post, but at the irony of designer handbag addicts visiting a link on frugal living to find tips for conditioning their bags!!

Please reread her post. SHE is the one calling people with light patina novice collectors.

WOOHHHHHHH I did not call anyone a novice collector!!! People were asking WHY we wanted to darken our bags and WHY in asian countries women are embarrassed to take out new bags. I gave an EXPLINATION - that is all.

  LOL.....I didn't realize the frugal living bit ..ironic indeed ..
I was looking for how other ways people use olive oil ..and found that olive oil used as the ingredient for leather conditoner

Sophia, I am not mad at you at all. I am not mad or angry with anyone here.

Molded bags.....that's something that occurs naturally due to poor storage. Gum on a bag? A foolish owner.............but to put food on a bag on purpose? Sorry, I'm sure you would not like to receive a bag like that. I know I wouldn't. And you don't know the long term effects of putting olive oil on it either.....but you don't care.

Maybe your buyers would be interested in knowing what you do to the old beater bags you sell.

I can't help but notice on your "me" page theres quite a bit of information about how to condition and clean a bag.....many products are mentioned, but I do not see Olive Oil there.

I am not attacking you personally, I do not know you. But your deceptive selling practices is what gives ebay a bad name. Nothing like buying from a seller who claims so much knowledge (your pamphlet), yet does not fully or honestly disclose their "cleaning and conditioning" methods. Why don't you practice what you preach? Why not disclose your Olive Oil usage? Why? Because you know no one would buy a bag with food oil on it.
