i understand this whole deal about patina...but what if you just got a brand spanking new bag from the store? For those who want the nice patina, does that mean not using it for months after it is released?
yeah right. i'd prefer to look like an "LV newbie" than have my $1K+ bag sit in my closet for a year! ;)

Actually yes! I've been looking at other girls patinas on the streets and some of them tote this bright almost orange things and I think maybe they are fake, but the colours are so varied that I can't actually tell what a good authentic patina should look like??!!!

I love patina on a bag but I can't justify sun-tanning my $800 bag???!!!

I think alot of this talk about patina is nonsense, regionally speaking of course. I have been a collector for over 20 years and have never heard about this LV newbie stuff. I have bags that I have owned for years that have a faint patina because that is how I like it. Eventually they will all patina but I prefer the white look of new vachetta. I think it looks rich when someone is carrying a limited item from a few years ago and it looks brand new. JMHO

That is why I wrote- regionally speaking. I'm in the US so I can only speak of this area. :smile1: Although I don't care what other people think if it is something I like- whether I was in the US or otherwise.

I agree. Which is why I'm so particular about carrying my Hudson.

lol thanks bagsnbags

power to the asians!

to bagsnob: lol i didnt read the regionally speaking, my bad :D

I'm with you and I'm not asian lol. Carrying an LV with no patina makes you look like a novice collector. Even I admit to eyeing girls with brand new pieces thinking "wow, were you in a rush to take that one out" - I tan my bags in the sun before taking them out.

Ok....I did it!
I have olived oiled my Speedy 30. I will say first of all I am not endorsing or encouraging..just stating my personal experiences.

Ok....so.....I have a speedy 30 that I bought from the boutique in Feb. It is pale and pasty and sad looking. I have been sunning it but not much has been happening. I have been getting some dirty little spots on it that have been driving me crazy.

So...after reading this thread...I figured....lets try it. First I tried a small spot on the back of the handle...so it wouldnt show if I totally f-ed it up. Small amount of EVOO and instantly I panicked because it looked dark. I went back an hour later and it was much lighter so I figured I would try another area. This time I used a little more and it got really dark and I figured in for a penny in for a pound...so I did the whole bag. Still using it sparingly and using a soft white cloth. I used it all over the bag and it has a three year patina on it. If it stayed exactly like this I would be soooo freaking happy but I am thinking it might lighten up a bit and I will post the results after an hour or so. Interestingly enough I took a picture this morning of it for my showcase pre EVOO and I will take an after soon. Once again I am not encouraging anyone to do this but for me it looks like I have had fab results!
