lol crazybaglady,

Well in asian countries, especiallu Taiwan and Japan, (you can quote me on this) almost EVERY SINGLE ONE of the girls, from 14 and up own and carry an authentic louis vuitton. these ladies do not want to seem like a "louis vuitton rookie" therefore a used patina makes them seem more like a seasoned collector. (the info below is from http://www.hisremnant.org/Vuitton/patina.html

BUT, just about everybody has Louis Vuitton in Japan. If there are 5 ladies at a cash register of a grocery store, expect 3-4 of them carrying Louis Vuitton. The lady in front of you may pull the exact same wallet that's in your purse! So they think carrying a brand new purse with a brand new leather makes them look like a Louis Vuitton newbie, and they want to look like a seasoned collector!

right on. I hear the sad part, esp. if I couldn't have had my Panda agenda yesterday... no matter what the cost. But, it IS sad that I can't do it all the time... But, I'm definately not embarrased about my handles,,, only my love handles... and they aren't even that bad.. lol

i can relate to this:

i was in taiwan a fear years ago carrying my mom's brand new multicolor speedy 30 in white, with handles white and everything. and i was on a subway thing with my brother and suddenly my brother nails me in the stomach becuase a group of schoolgirls across from our seats on the subway were snickerin at my moms purse, each one of them had cabas mezzos or a luco tote and even a speedy 30 which were all oxidized.

Yeah, that totally rocks about Asian chicks. They are completely inspiring to me with their fashion and bag thing. That's too hot,....

giggless...

lol

it was on taiwan news once that girls, very young, were asking their parents for money and spendnig all the money they have to purchase a lv bag. this is how desperate it is to have a lv bag as a young girl in order to fit in.

that is why LV sells most in Japan, asia...etc

My Panda agenda just arrived yesterday from Taiwan, the Huang family, brand spanking new in gift box with all cards and everything. I asked my bg all about Taiwan and he gave me a little lesson last night, he does a lot of business in Vietnam and passes through Taiwan a lot.

I LOVE how asian girls are wild for the French Vuitton. It really makes me feel.... okay.

Thank god for Josephine with the Huang family.

I don't know, I guess if olive oil is okay for you sophia, I might be able to caress my Vuitton with the virgin stuff. I'd have to feel very calm about it though.

Tanks for all da tips....

lol its ok

i just noticed for a 14 year old, i know a freaking lot bout patina on lv hahah

i cant wait to go back to taiwan this summer, ill take pics of random asian girls on the street with lv

Oh, please do take the pics, that would be so cool. And, YEEEAAHHH, for a (gulp) 14 year old, you SHO do!

Nice chattin w/ya sweetie!

don't forgit to git those pics...

I, personally, would never use a cooking oil on my bags. If you feel the need, I would also use mink oil or similar product developed for leather. JMHO

me either. I remember the shinning monkey thing....alot of people ruined their bags because of bad advise. I wont use anything. Let nature take its course. IMO

I've seen some of their stuff on eBay...and it is ALWAYS ridiculously high in price! But more power to you in using them for a collectible such as a Panda piece!

I've also heard of people frowning on LV bags with little to no patina. I don't feel a lot of pressure in the Baltimore area in carrying newer Monogram bags because I see very few people carrying authentic LV anyway. Plus, with a piece I really love (like my Hudson), I almost want it to stay new and beautiful forever.

If I lived somewhere like Chevy Chase though, I'd feel completely self conscious. I'd probably stick to my Damier or Epi since they hide their age well.

I hate feeling that way though. I want to take pride in all of my LV regardless of the stage of its age. It sucks to have to go through so much to look like I "deserve" to carry it or am accustomed to carrying it when - guess what? - two years ago, I wasn't. Not all of us were born with a pochette in our cribs and I think that's what makes collecting LV later in life even more special and rewarding.

Okay, I'm ranting - this is a touchy subject for me.

LMAO @ "I like my LV lightly sauteed"!!!

Please enlighten me..I never understood that. A light leathered bag only shows that you just bought a new bag. that is a GOOD thing. why is that an embarassment. I have heard that alot from other women also. True, they look better with a nice patina, but why be embarrassed? I'd be embarrassed if I couldnt afford to buy a LV Bag. forget the embarressed part...I would be so very sad if I couldnt buy a new bag!!!

Having a bag with no patina makes you look like an LV newbie, like you JUST bought this bag and had to take it out RIGHT NOW - kind of like noveau riche

i understand this whole deal about patina...but what if you just got a brand spanking new bag from the store? For those who want the nice patina, does that mean not using it for months after it is released?

I guess I'm a little glad that damier does not give its age away though I also am not a fan of really light handles and would prefer a nice honey brown!
