I've read a tutorial before saying something about mink oil but I'd never use any oil on mine. Mine's getting to the honey stage with the heat and sun that's already here.

I, personally, would never use a cooking oil on my bags. If you feel the need, I would also use mink oil or similar product developed for leather. JMHO

I have one bag that has a rich beautiful butter scotch color and its shiny and perfect and I never used anything on it. Its a shoulder BLOIS bag though. I think the speedy is harder because its difficult not to touch the handles. I have never used oil on any of my bags.

Well, as a test I used it on a Noe I'm re-selling - and it came out all blotchy :X

It seems to be drying though - so we shall see...

Oh, dear  I don't want a blotchy Speedy  Maybe I should tan it without putting anything on it? Ha, I could imagine bringing it to the beach with me :p I just want a nice patina!

I used E.V olive oil but didn't come out blothcy at all. Here how I did it: I apply some olive oil on really soft clothes(clothes to clean glass). I rubbed the oily cloths to the leather evenly and gave some rubbing action. You will notice the color will get darker the longer you rub it. The last thing I did was, wiped the whole leather with another clean clothes so no blotchines.

OK - I went out to the bar with my bf's brother and his fiance - and when I got back the bag had dried beautifully - the leather feels nice and supple and has a nice shine to it. This bag is a 1988 noe - so it wasn't in pristine condition to begin with, but the patina was established, hence the reason I decided to test it on this particular bag. Looks good! Feels good. Very smooth and silky feel to the leather. I don't think I'd have the guts to do this to any of my personal bags though - it was realy nerve wracking!

I would think it WOULD be nervewracking. I'm definately afraid to do it to my grafitti pochette handle. And, I've never heard of the thing about if your leather isn't worn in it's passe or you're gauche.

Gee, guess I live in cow-town...

totally.

yeah i saw that thread too.
im jsut like you , livinlux, i want to speed up the patina...im taiwanese and i am going back this summer and having a "light leathered" bag there is sort of an embarassment.

Please enlighten me..I never understood that. A light leathered bag only shows that you just bought a new bag. that is a GOOD thing. why is that an embarassment. I have heard that alot from other women also. True, they look better with a nice patina, but why be embarrassed? I'd be embarrassed if I couldnt afford to buy a LV Bag. forget the embarressed part...I would be so very sad if I couldnt buy a new bag!!!
