Ode to the bolide

Mine are also in evercolor and even when new, already exhibited this “waist” or indentation.

My 25 in evercolor does not have this indentation.

The mini bolide in evercolor is softer and slouchier vs the 25 in evercolor. It doesn’t really bother me but it might bother some people. I love the mini bolide. It’s so cute and handy and can actually fit a substantial amount of stuff.

Agreed! Mine is Gold Evercolour and is also much more slouchy vs chèvre. Maybe it’s a similar difference to getting a Birkin in Togo vs Epsom…in that one is going to be inherently slouchier and the other will be stiffer? The nice thing about Evercolour is that the leather is very soft and luxurious to the touch. (NB: When I say “slouchy” I don’t mean floppy by any means. Just that is develops indents here and there as the leather eases with age. But, I doubt the bag would ever lose its shape and flop over.)

Evercolor does feel luxurious. I also don't think the bag will ever lose its shape (vs a Bolide 31 in clemence that puddles). Curious if you store yours standing up or laying on its back? I've been storing mine laying on its back but if I'm using it over a few days, I put it aside upright.

So cute! What colour is this? Craie... maybe mushroom?

Ooh how are your bags holding up? I don’t know much about this leather and was considering this vs chevre, but I think gold comes more often in evercolor

I’m not sure if it’s the evercolor leather, or the shape of the bag (it’s the only mini Bolide I own) but the bag started to look misshaped fairly quickly. This picture was taken 5 months after I bought it.

I still like it a lot, but I don’t think I’d repurchase, at least not in Evercolor.

Thank you for the insight !! That’s a bummer! Would love to hear from others if your chèvre or evercolor has this problem. I also haven’t seen any in Epsom, save for the bolide on wheels (which I think is the mini size ?)

I’d love to see how a Chevre mini Bolide aged if someone has one!

I have mini Bolides in both chèvre and Evercolor, and although I generally love chèvre in any bag and have chosen it for almost all my SOs...IMO Evercolor is holding up a bit better. Mini Bolides will tend to get a slightly dented center or corners once used, because they are relatively soft leathers and there isn't a stiffening layer like there is in Mini Kelly Sellier. This slight softening and denting shows more on chèvre. Also, the corners of the mini Bolide get contact wear slightly in the same way Kellys do (so smooth leathers like Evercolor wear a bit better here too). HTH.

I do both, depending on if I’m using it. Most of the time I have it stored on its side in the box. I’m not sure which is better tbh!

Thank you for this, it is very interesting. I would have assumed that chèvre would hold up better - happy to hear that Evercolour isn’t as delicate as I had thought. I would love a bolide 25 in noir. I was able to see one on display at the boutique this summer and it was very structured, but I think it might have been Epsom?

Haha love that you said “waist”, so cute

I’m not sure why the mini bolide seems to have this problem (the misshapen shape) more than the 25 in same material.

I don’t mind the “slouch” on a bigger “workhorse-throw-everything-inside” bag but it looks odd on a mini bag IMO.

Anyhow, it’s more of a running errands bag for me, so I don’t need it to look pristine. But I won’t be repurchasing it again, especially since it will likely look even worse in chevre :sweatdrop:

Does anyone know the production numbers for bolide on wheels and if they are going to stop producing it?

I know that its a limited/special edition bag, but want to know more about the bag.

I heard someone on YouTube say that its 10 per colour, but not sure if she knows what shes talking about...
I don’t have the production numbers, but my SA said that more than 100 were made making it not a “rare” bag, but a “hard to get” bag. If 100+ were made and there are 5 colorways, then at least 20 of each color were made.

My SA said they would stop making at least the current models in 2023.

I wouldn't say my mini Bolides are misshapen - they just don't have that super-structured shape with stiff "walls" that a Box or Epsom Bolide would have. Pretty sure both bags are posted in this thread.
The 1923 design seems a bit softer to me in all sizes, too (but I still like it better).

Honestly I am loving the Evercolor. I originally wasn't super excited about it, but my SA showed me every mini Bolide in the store and the only chèvre was noir (which I had) and Orange Minium (too neon for me). Now I'm thrilled with it.
I wonder if there are inserts that might help with the shape, although it’s already so mini that the insert would probably take up valuable real estate
I use a bag pillow for my minis when they are not in use and that really helps. I think they look fine, but are possibly not for the absolute structure perfectionist.

Again, the mini is a bag without an inner structural element, so it's softer than one might assume. I would not at all say they slouch - they are subject to minor denting and to a very slight softness in the shape. I'm still a huge fan and they are some of my most used bags.
