I haven't looked back in the thread to see if you posted the stamp but this looks like Chamonix.

Hi mistikat. Ok this threw me. I'm not expecting chamonix the leather is awfully smooth to the touch. Does chamonix get this dark with age?
Which stamp? Date is D-square or are you referring to the hermes Paris stamp?

The Hermes stamp is gold on chèvre inner lining.

Hence initial conclusion was gulliver. Would you think this could be it?
I'm wondering if it's gold stamped because of the chèvre.

This doesn't look like Gulliver to me from the pics you have posted. My money is still on Chamonix; the finish is slightly glossier than Barenia and not as textured as it would be for Gulliver. But it could just be the lighting in the photos. Definitely not Barenia IMO.

Duna, help. I was looking through the entire Barenia reference thread and gulliver and I'm still undecided. Even started to hallucinate this may be boxcalf.

Here's another. The patina and the way the scratches are presented gave me the instant impression of Barenia. The bag was also next to a boxcalf gold and another VN bag at the store so I'm pretty sure the plume is neither of those leathers.
I've also looked at my other gullivers, the plume is more buttery for sure. My other Barenia bag is not on hand for me to compare with.. Gahh.

Actually from these pics it does look like Barenia.....as you rightly say, the scratches look like Barenia scratches....I'm not totally sure but I would opt for Barenia after all! Do you have an H store near you? Maybe you could take it in and ask them: mind you, not that H SAs know much more than us about H leathers, they often know less, lol! Sorry I can't be more precise at this point!

Jadeite,

you still have not shown an extreme closeup of the texture of the bag for me to decide but as an owner of a Chamonix Plume (F square) and a Barenia Plume (C square), I would say that yours is Barenia, given all the info u have given so far.

My Barenia does have the gold stamp too btw and the Barenia scent after all these yrs.

My vote is for Barenia based in the scratches, darkening around the edges of the zipper pull, and the resin (not sure what color it is with Chamonix, but it's definitely clear, not brown for VN). My vintage VN Kelly has a box-like shine and smoothness, the overall darkening is definitely not as uniform as this, and the scratches don't look like this. I have no experience with aged Gulliver or swift, but that would be my second guess after Barenia. Also, if the Hermes stamp is on the inside, it wouldn't be heat stamped, even if it was Barenia, right? Love a good leather mystery!

This sums up my thoughts perfectly! Yayy for Barenia!!!

Duna, mistikat, seton, ouija board, I truly appreciate all your comments ... In fact I'm enjoying the mystery.. Just like ouija said! I didn't sleep much last nite since I was waiting for sun up so I can get more pics in daylight.
My usual store is closed for reno so no craftsman nor the senior SAs for me to take to.

Here's a couple of pics for the heck of it. :smile1:

Then I dragged out a couple of other leathers to compare,

chamonix F-square vs mystery D-square
I don't have a well aged chamonix but am superbly interested to see one now that mistikat brought up the possibility.
