I was hoping to get some opinions on a barenia fauve Kelly from the experts in this thread. Looking to purchase this one from MadisonAvenueCouture

I love all heritage leathers and barenia is just my absolute favourite. I know the leather shows wear and will scratch. I don’t mind and I’m totally ok with the condition of the one I linked above. Few questions:
1. Does it look like this bag has already developed patina? Should I expect it to get even darker or uneven in colour? How do I prevent uneven patina?
2. I am totally ok with the scratches at present. Based on the age of the bag (2022) and its current condition is their a possibility that if scratch it more the new scratches won’t blend with the leather?

I’ve seen some bags age beautifully even with scratches (and that’s what I would hope for this bag if i purchased). I don’t baby my bags but will probably use this about once a week.
Oh this Kelly is delicious!!! And at this point below retail!!!

Yes the bag has some patina. It can continue to develop by exposure to sun and touch, you can deepen it by treating it, or you can choose not to advance it. I have a Barenia Birkin that is barely patina'ed because I haven't really tried and I don't use it as much as I use some other Barenias. I like all the different levels of patina!

@WhiteBus is right, scratches all blend unless they are very deep and no bag is immune to things like protruding nails or very rough surfaces.

Thank you for your feedback! What do I need to do to ensure the bag does not patina further? Not use it as much? Or moisturizer the bag with an Hermes’ product or maybe just rub with my fingers (sorry if that sounds silly but I think I read it somewhere).

More patina isn't bad, but if you want to keep it from darkening do NOT moisturize it, store it out of the sun, and minimize rubbing it. I only rub my Barenia bags to blend in scratches and give them a more lived-in feel.
Generally, with Barenia, just use it and love it. It's beautiful when it's pale and stiff and it's beautiful when it's dark and supple. The vast majority of people prefer the dark/supple end of the spectrum.

I agree with QuelleFromage, but if you are so concerned with patina development, then you might have to consider that Barenia is not the skin for you. Patina development is an essential feature of Barenia: there are some examples of SLGs (men's wallets in particular) becoming quite a dark brown, but this is not normal usage for a bag. What is the point of having anything functional if you are not going to use it!

If you want to blend in a mark, use the fleshy ball or palm of the hand that you might use for fraisage - not the fingers, because they concentrate your working in a small area, but your aim is to blend into a large area.

Although this experience is freely shared, ironically putting it into words does reinforce your idea that barenia marks and can change a lot; the intention is to do just the opposite.
I think one of the pleasures of owning Barenia is this kind of caressing it whilst it is on your lap.

My Kelly 32 has arrived! Have already worn her about half a dozen times in the past 1.5 weeks! I think I have also given her some new marks, but I love her! She still smells heavenly. 🥰🥰 I’ve added some pics of me taking her out for the first time, trying her on for the first time and trying out some twillys.

Congratulations to this beautiful bag - looks amazing on you! Barenia is intended to be used… here is mine on a recent trip in Economy class. I did of course make sure she stood between my legs and was not hit by anyone else’s feet. IMG_8164.jpeg

Hello Barenia lovers! I am hoping for some help from you all. Currently in JP and like a true handbag lovers dream, I stumbled across a barenia Kelly 25. The stamp starts with U which I believe means it was produced in ‘22? Anyways, I loved the leather but the smell was gone and I noticed that there were some.. imperfections as above? Some stitchings and crumpled(?) leather. What do you think, am I being too picky? Lastly I noticed the inside was not smooth leather - is that normal?

Many thanks! Hoping to join you all soon.

do you have doubts about authenticity?
or is it just quality?

A barenia bag is always wonderful. All H bags are hand stitched, so there may be some imperfections. The lining ( on many bags and barenia) is chevre, which is not a smooth leather.
But please, take any and all questions to Bababebi and have the bag authenticated- for your peace of mind, and so you can go through all the "imperfections" with her, and see if you still adore the bag.
Hope this helps!
