Nordstrom Return Policy Thread!!

I think you'll be surprised at what can be returned at most stores. :smile1:

In my experience (Saks, even TJ Maxx and Marshalls), as long as an item is clearly unworn, it can be returned with an apologetic smile. Sometimes even without a receipt. Not sure if you would get store credit, but Saks has returned money straight to my account on an item before. If you have the receipt, Nordies may just return money straight to your card/account.

Call first and explain the situation to someone before going in though.

Good luck.

I am a very loyal Nordstrom shopper and do about 90% of my shopping with them (quite a lot). Sometimes I've bought things that I believe will get worn, only to find later that they've sat in my closet, unworn with tags on. Some of these items are from over a year ago, all are in perfect condition but not in season anymore. I know that given their generous return policy they will take them back, but I don't want to abuse their return policy and get on their "black" list. Do you think it's appropriate to bring items back after this amount of time, or should I just suck it up and view it as a loss?

Thanks very much.

So you would like to return items that are a year or so old???

I don't know if you have a high return history or not, but think that
since you have these items for over a year, I would think perhaps
about returning some of the items certainly not all.

Would you consider (what you don't return) selling them either privately
or on ebay?

We all make mistakes with buying & stores do have a liberal return
policy, but just think this is a long time to return an item/s
and I don't think Nordstrom's would block you, but I would not risk it..

Returning something to Nordstrom, with or without a receipt, is never a problem. If I dont have the actual receipt, I have the tag which has the sticker receipt on the back. Heck, now they just scan the info into the barcode thats already printed on the tag. In other words, dont worry about it.

Personally I wouldn't return something over a year because my SAs know me lol and I get good perks so I don't want to get on Nordstroms' bad side... I'd prefer to sell it or give it to someone or donate it to charity.

This certainly is another reason not to return merchandise that
is over a year old.

It is nice to get those "perks" from sales associates & remain in
good standing. To me that means alot:smile1:that's just me

I think I'll try to sell a few things and hopefully not feel the need to return anything. From now on I'm going to think very carefully about potential purchases and how much use they'll get.

And you have to wonder, does the commission that the SA earns get deducted
after an item is returned after a period of a year??

If that is the case, I would not return an item especially if I am getting "perks"...

I think I heard that after one year the commission is no longer lost as a result of a return. Does anyone (Nordstrom employee?) know about this?

return them before they are 2 years old. otherwise, the system won't give you the price you paid and you'll get the lowest selling price.

also, don't worry about commission. after a year, the returns don't affect the employee.

I need to return a pair of shoes to Nordstrom from Australia. Does anyone here know if ill be charged any taxes or duties on returning something to the store in Seattle? The shoes cost around $800.
The recipient is the one who is charged when making a purchase so you wouldn't be charged for a return.

On the customs form, state that the item is a return to Nordstroms so they won't be charged a fee.

Ugh I have the same problem! I have a pair of boots and a scarf from a year or two ago, but I don't want to be blacklisted, especially since I return a lot of things from my online orders that don't fit. I'm thinking of Ebaying them instead.

I take full advantage of Nordstroms generous return policy, it's why I'm a loyal customer. I usually only buy makeup and shoes. But I've never returned anything over a few months old and I always end up spending more than I return. I think if you've had something over 6 months, it's not "cool" to return it. Try to shop more carefully in the future and do your returns in a more timely manner.
