I think it's fine. All you're doing is asking if Nordstrom will honor the sale price, and if the sales assistant or manager says no, so be it.
I bought some shoes from Piperlime once during a sale. They were too small, and the sale had ended. When I called to ask about the return process, the representative offered, without my asking, to give me the same price on a bigger size. My co-worker recently ordered a jacket from Piperlime, during a 20% off sale, that was too small. When she called about it, the bigger size was out of stock. The representative put a note in her account that Piperlime will honor the 20% off whenever the jacket is back in stock. For some companies, this is apparently the policy, and I don't think it's a big deal to simply ask a question.
