Nordstrom Return Policy Thread!!

My local Nordstrom store won't do refunds on worn merchandise at all. Time was I bought all of my shoes there specifically because they had a policy that you could return them if they gave you blisters, etc. I think I only returned one pair (worn inside on carpet), but it was nice knowing that I could if I needed to. It was the policy they started their first shoe store with, and it did well for them.

That was a number of years ago, and once they became less customer friendly, I started buying at Saks, Neman Marcus, and stand alone boutiques (Choo, Louboutin, etc.). I did buy a pair of Uggs at Nordstrom a few years ago, but I did so with the intent that they would not be returned (and they are still keeping my toes toasty).

As an aside, I once bought some flats at Jimmy Choo, and from walking just across the mall (about 6 stores worth both directions), I had HUGE blisters on my feet, and my BF at the time marched me right back in there and made me return them that very moment. They didn't bat an eye about doing so (maybe because he was pretty upset at my feet being so abused). Last flats I ever bought from Choo; I stuck to heels.

My local Nordstroms all take back used items. If stuff doesn't last you can return it.

I've heard the SA's say uggs only last a year and they will return it w receipt to prove purchase ( or sticker ) even after a year. In salon shoes I've seen ladies return their Loubs after walking from NYC to LA and maybe all over Italy.

I think they are getting stricter with proving purchase or if you wore something for 3 years they might put their foot down but that's one reason I shop there. If an item gives out and I pay retail / high price I'm protected.

Macy's / NM/ bloomingdales / Barney's / Von Maur doesn't offer that. I've been given a hard time at Macy's for tops w tags still on and I never wore ( tried on at home ) they said they saw slight deodorant marks inside, was slightly wrinkled and said it was worn. You could smell the tops and knew they hadn't been worn.. I had to get the store manager to return it and basically never shopped there again.

From reading various posters, it seems Nordstrom doesn't have a consistent policy anymore. That's really too bad. Like I said, their return policy for shoes (since they began life as a shoe store) is what really got me buying all of my shoes there years ago, and of course I bought clothes, bags, etc. as well. But when they changed their customer service, it was really a turn off, and I have gotten a hassle trying to return something that was NOT worn or used, but they tried to say it was. I only ever returned something to NM that I had bought online and it was still in the packaging with all tags, and I had no problem with the return.

My only suggestion is maybe order online and return online.. I have returned worn shoes/boots online no problem. I usually return in store since there are so many near me but I have returned via the mail and was issued refunds.

And another thought I was buying bras last year and the SA told me to try them, wash them, wear them and if they stlll dont work out return them .. telling me to wear them and return them .. they worked out but still they are offering this advice of wear/ return to many people. And then to turn around and refuse a return is weird. Maybe its just Uggs .. they are sold everywhere, counterfeited a lot ( they dont want switcheroo returns probably ) and very very popular.

There return policy doesn't seem consistent at all. Ive been told it is up to the store manager's discretion, but it definitely differs by location or department.

nordstrom started as a tire store fyi...and employees are told to use their best judgement for returns. if an item is a 1 yr old and looks disgusting and i was a SA i wouldn't take it back niether thats just nasty and what in your right mind would make you think that that is ok?

I've never shopped at Nordstrom before but I'm thinking of buying a Clarisonic (possibly a set) for my mama for xmas. The reason I'm considering Nordstrom (over Macy's) is because I'm just now learning about their return policy.

My question is that if my mama uses the Clarisonic for a couple months and finds that it doesn't work for her, will they accept a return and give her cash?! I just want her to be happy and know that she received a gift that worked for her or else she can get something else she'll like.

I would just make sure she keeps the box with sticker or packing gift receipt and even if its been a few months she should be fine

I wouldn't purchase at Macy's if its a maybe return gift.

^I am curious, too. I have always gotten the impression at Macy's that as long as you have your proof of purchase (the sticker) or a gift receipt, they will take the return.

brainstorm: Even though Nordstrom most likely would accept the return, I don't know that deciding a Clarisonic isn't effective after a couple of months is a fair use of their return policy. I can understand if the Clarisonic made her break out, or if it stopped working, but just because you don't like it after you use it? I wouldn't return for that reason.

To be honest, I don't anticipate that my mom would return/exchange it, but I like the security of knowing that she will have something she likes. And I do think that it's fair for a product like this, because sometimes it may take a while for her to see if this product even works for her.

Are you sure? I thought the whole tire return story was because the first Nords location was where there used to be a tire store. So one day someone brought back a tire (since Nords had a no questions asked return policy) and insisted they bought it there. Even though they didn't buy it at Nords, they did buy it in that specific building so the manager refunded the customer for the price they said they paid. I could be wrong, but a friend who is a manager at Nords told me this.

I heard this is as well and the follow up was that the tire store had moved down the block to a smaller store and the sales return lady went later in the day to return them her self and got her money back.

It wasn't the company policy to issue returns on "tires" but the sales lady understood that it was going to be a little bit more work for her, taking them to the right place herself but a happy customer would walk out the door. Of course this was years ago where customer service was way different.

Nordstrom started as a shoe store. Hence there great policy on returning shoes.

I was so compelled by the ridiculousness of some of these posts/questions, I had to register and reiterate some basic concepts/state facts (have much more to say, but this post is already quite wordy):

SA work on commission. Do those of you whining about wearing shoes and boots for 3, 6, 12 months at a time before deciding you "changed your mind" realize what that means? To put it bluntly: if you enjoy your shoes for your special event, wedding, anniversary, the season, or several years and decide to use the store as a rent-a-center, you are directly *stealing* money right back from the poor person's paycheck when you return. If the person is still working there a year later and you return something from a year ago, yes, they still are affected by your cheapness.

What's even more appalling is that some of you can't even face the SA and try and run and hide and return with someone else in another department or slither to CS or even go to another store! Newsflash: everything is tracked electronically. The SA will know you returned, so make no mistakes about that. Have the decency to exchange with the original person who sold it to you, so the person can attempt to save the sale or don't be surprised if they begin to avoid you like the churn-em-and-burn-em thief that you are (if you feel entitled to do this regularly because you have no decency).

Put it this way: would you drive a car for a year and then have the gall to return it to a dealer for a full refund if you saw wear and tear on the leather or the threading in your tires wasn't as deep as when it was brand new? Would you enjoy a mattress for years and then return it to the manufacturer when you felt it wasn't as sturdy as when you first laid your stingy-little-head down to rest? How about eating 7 out of 8 slices of a meat lover's pizza and then deciding you actually don't like pepperoni and wanted your money back? (Satisfaction guaranteed, right?!)

Some of you that abuse the return policy still like to complain that what you purchased was dirty or scuffed or a little loose - what the hell do you think happens to returned merchandise when you walk away? Hang around and watch what a SA does to a return next time you want to dump something you've enjoyed and want a refund for. Do you *honestly* think you are the only special snowflake scamming the system and bringing back items purchased on your AmEx for rewards points and returned for cash to do some holiday shopping or pay another bill with? "I only wore it on carpet a few times!" (You still wore it.) "My feet bloated weeks later!" (Fabulous, you stretched them out and expect someone else to enjoy them now?) "I had the dress altered for my specific body measurements, but still am not satisfied!" (Who in the world is going to by a size 8 that might now be more like a 7 1/2??) And then in the same breath you'll complain about quality control.

Common sense. :bagslap:
