Nordstrom Return Policy Thread!!

I had to return shoes once after wearing (to Nordstrom) because the sole was defective. I'd never return something I wore just because I decided I didn't like it. The store shouldn't take a loss because I chose to buy something I ended up not liking. I'm all for defective items being returned, but returning after wearing for no reason is abusing the store, IMO. You should have determined you didn't like them before wearing and within a reasonable period after purchase.

I don't see that on their return policy page (just saying) but people have made it seem like it was okay (people in real life and some from previous posts) to return whatever whenever but I guess I'm not going to try to anymore. I do feel bad but I was contemplating because I just hate the shoes so much that I wanted what I could get back from it. And I have no idea why I never returned them, even a year later (not that it would be okay even a year later to return USED shoes but it just didn't cross my mind) when I really didn't wear them. Maybe I thought I would.

Maybe they would take them back, who knows. But is it the right thing for you to do?

I personally think not. You wore them, years have passed and the store shouldn't lose money because you bought something, wore it and then think you want something else. You should have tried them in the house until 100% sure you were keeping. Once they are used, they can't be resold. Sell them on the second hand market.

I returned mine within 5-7 months. I returned them because they were just so incredibly uncomfortable. I am glad they took them back and I applaud Nordstrom for their customer service. I think it was right that they took them back because a) the shoes were still basically brand new and b) they pride themselves on their service

I think if they would take them back and you are honest about how much you've worn them and for how long, there is no "right" thing to do.

Its been 5 years. Its plain ridiculous and there is a right and wrong it wouldve been right if she returned them 5 years ago. It is wrong that she is trying to return them 5years later.

This is why I no longer shop with Nordies, and I used to love that store and shopped with them almost exclusively as far as department stores were concerned. They enable and encourage the worst customer behavior. I always had to wonder if I was purchasing something that was only "basically" new or "just a little worn." Uh, no thanks!

^^^^ Not only that, but we, as customers are paying more for items from Nordies because of their "liberal" return policy.

When they take old, used, damaged, etc. items back and have to zero them out, they raise prices on everything else to pay for their own losses.

returning an item even a couple months after you purchased it is a huge loss to the store. i try not to return anything if it's not within a reasonable time frame even if the store has a liberal return policy.

also i think returned items from nordies goes to nordstrom rack. i dont think they put it back up in the store.

Price increases are directly from the vendors that carried price increases has nothing to do with nordstrom business.

Nordstrom rack items are just last season stuff they do put the returned items at rack. They either zero it out or damage it so no customer can repurchase.

And you don't think we (customers) are paying for the zeroed-out items? We pay for shrink (stolen items) too!

Yes, vendors raise prices, but prices also rise to cover other losses.

What?! Are you kidding?? Don't be silly!

The right thing to do is to return within 30 days if you are dissatisfied with your purchase. Most stores allow 30 days to return/no question asked, as this is more than ample time to determine if you want to keep the item or not. Don't wait 5 years and several wearings of the merchandise before you decide you don't want it.

For goodness sake, just use your common sense, and listen to your conscience-- it's your sense of right and wrong.

Nordstrom is a business, not a charity. They do what they feel is most beneficial to them, so if they tell me I can do something, I don't need to look after them, they can make decisions for themselves.
