I have a friend who is a mgr at a Nords---you wouldn't believe some of the returns stories she has! I am literally SHOCKED at the things people try to take back to her store! OP, these shoes are nothing compared to what your store is used to seeing, I promise that!

Lol I really do wonder what people try to pull off! Her job sounds entertaining!

This is not true Nordstrom takes everything back. I've heard many times people would be send away because they did not have a proof of purchase. without stickers or receipts it is pretty difficult task to do.

not if you pay by card. they can look anything up bc they keep meticulous records. they were the first store to really start doing that. i've returned items with no receipt or box and only a vague idea of when i bought it and we sat there for 20 minutes until we found the purchase.

Please do not do that. That is taking advantage of their return policy! Just because you dont wanna spend another 100 on a new pair of boots. If you didnt know... nordstrom employees work on commission and that will hurt their sales cause you wanna be cheap and not buy a new pair. And just because you know that their return policy is a easy one would you go to any other store trying to return those damn worn boots? Its a year old! Dont blame anyone but yourself if you have a hardtime returning it and if the SA looks at you like you are stupid.

Seriously? It's not that she wanted a new pair, if you would of read OPs post correctly you'll see that the boots have changed color, obviously a defect in one of the pair. She has every right to return them.

Obviously they will change color its been a whole YEAR!! After wear and a year of use wth do you think were going to happen to them?! Shoes dont last a lifetime.

A lot of this varies by store. As I understand it each store gets to set just how lenient they want to be. Mgrs can turn returns down if they choose (most often because of someone returning too frequently).

Used underwear, clothing from other stores (with the brand name on it), things that they spilt on/stained, baby clothes that don't fit their kid anymore, you name it!

It is true that they will lose the commission, but I think that only applies for a year--after 1 year they aren't affected by returns (I think, I could be wrong).

Sometimes that will apply sometimes it doesnt..depends if it is exactly over a year or not but it still hits the department..

But the fact that one changed color while the other did not? That sounds like there was something wrong with the boot leather, especially if it was noticeable enough that the OP couldn't wear them. Of course you'd expect some change, but I wouldn't expect that, even after a year! I still own some boots I've had over 5 years with plenty of wear and tear but not such a drastic change in color.
Oh and I could be wrong, but I think that the SA would still get commission on a year old item. I'll have to ask my friend who is a buyer for Nordstroms, she may have some idea. Do all SAs get commission? I thought I heard recently that certain departments get commission while others do not....hmmmm

They are steve madden I have the same boots and they changed just like hers so i dont find it suprising.

And only the rack stores dont get commission..the full line stores do. Every department gets commission excluding customer service, the web team,housekeeping/maintence and loss prevention.

So what happens if you buy online and return in-store? Does the store take a hit on its commission/does the return count against them?

If you buy online and you have the proof of purchase and they can just recall it then it hits online. But if the item cant be found and has to be manually returned then the store takes a hit.

I know the rack stores don't get commission but for some reason I thought there was a dept (of Nordstrom's) where they don't receive commission?

Commission is not a concern when it comes to defective items !!

I have boots ten years old. No color change and still going strong. Sorry but shoes boots etc should last longer than a year. It's not like she bought some cheap crap at payless.

I bought some Frye's at over 300. You better believe they should last longer than a year or 2. Or back they go with a complaint to Frye.

F21 is disposable clothing. Not Nordstroms.
