I have a friend who's a manager at a Nords and the stories she tells never cease to amaze me! People will literally return anything anytime! I usually feel bad if it's a few months and she's regularly telling me stories about items that are 5+ yrs old, worn and gross or even from other stores!!

i think for a few months. if you paid with cash or credit card, then you need to keep the receipt. otherwise you will get store credit or get it refunded to your macys store credit card
Interesting. it is still six mos where I live. Maybe different stores or regions have different policies.

The 1999 nordstrom return is crazy! I like the kindness nordstrom gives to customers, but people can be so abusive of nordstrom's goodwill. If item is defective that is one thing, but one day we may see the last of nordstrom's generous ways. What a shame that would be.

I don't think we will see the end of their return policy any time soon. I'm not positive, but I believe they only lose about 3% on average from returns and they depend on the loyalty they gain from such a lenient policy. Plus they have stores like Last Chance to sell those returns so it helps keep losses to a minimum. When you think about it, I'm actually kind of surprised that other stores don't model their policies after Nords, especially with how well Nords has worked out.

I'm sorry but did you say a year and a half?? I don't know but just b/c they have a great return policy doesn't mean people should abuse it!! Sheesh!
OP had never worn the item so it was still in new condition; how is that abusing Nordstrom's own lenient return policy? Anthropologie is similar in that they have no deadline for returns, so I see that multiple stores believe that their return policy attracts loyal customers.

There is a reason Nordstrom has seen profits increase more so than other stores in recent months, and it is because of situations like this. I saw a man go in with a $10 off coupon that had expired 4 years ago. The SA, without any judgment, told him to go to CS and they would issue him a new one.

I'm sorry, but a year a half? A store is not going to be able to sell last season's style for the full price so that means a loss in profit for them. I personally don't have a problem w/ people returning but I have issues w/ people abusing it. Just because you can doesn't mean it's a right thing to do!

And yes Nordstrom and Anthro and many others do adopt this return policy b/c they know MOST people will not abuse their policy. And trust me the minute the numbers of abuse increases this policy will be changed b/c no business can sustain that if everyone were to do what the OP does!!

abuse is repeatedly buying, wearing and returning... actually, that's trifling!

But the OP doesn't seem to be abusing the policy

How? It wasn't worn, she had the tags...

She didn't violate their return policy.

Ok let me ask you this... so in your view as long as the tags are still on the item then she should be able to return it 20 years later, right? I mean that's still not against their policy at all. Who cares if the store can longer get full price for last season's item... but hey as long as we get our money back then that's all it matters, right?

When does common sense and common courtesy come into play here?

Those executives who made a decision to have a lenient return policy is not banking on the fact that people will abuse this. And I am sure most people are not otherwise you better believe this return policy will cease to exist!
