Nordstrom Return Policy Thread!!

I once watched a guy return a cashmere sweater to Bloomies -- without a receipt or tag -- that he said was a gift for the previous Christmas. Much to my horror, the SA found a similar sweater and credited him the full amount. Doesn't seem right to me after over a year. I hope the store could sell it at full price.

And as far as the little stickers go, Bloomies at least doesn't keep track of those in their computer after a period of time (like over 6 months or a year), so they have a hard time finding how to refund you if you don't have the receipt or some proof of price paid.

Nordstrom's computer systems are pretty amazing.
I bought a purse from the Rack with my ATM card. About 5 months later I wore the purse for the 3rd or 4th time and the strap broke. It was clearly some sort of manufacturing defect.
I was nervous to take it back especially since it was used and therefore had no tags and the receipt was long gone. But I took in my bank statement that showed the purchase and hoped they would at least give me a store credit.
The cashier didn't even need my bank statement. Without tags she was able to immediately trace the purchase to me and already knew that I had used my ATM. She put the money back in my account and the whole thing took less than 2 minutes. I truly have no idea how she did it. It was amazing!
I don't normally return things, especially if I've already had them for 5 months even if I haven't used them. I have a blouse hanging in my closet right now that has tags on it that I bought a long time ago. I would never try to return it even though I still wonder what I was thinking when I bought it. :)
But if a purse falls apart the 3rd/4th time I wear it, I'm very grateful that Nordies is willing and able to trace the exact purchase price and method of payment and to do it all graciously.

^I think so too. I went to return something a couple weeks ago but lost my receipt so they tried to look me up by my name and they still couldn't find it so I gave them my account e-mail address and password so they could see my past orders. My Nordstroms will NOT let you return something without a proof of purchase.

Two years ago, Nordstrom had a pair of hoop earrings in their Anniversary sale that I loved. They didn't have them at my local store, so I ordered them online. One of the clasps was loose when I received them, but by that time they were all sold out of them in stores and online. The SA at the jewelry counter did her best to tighten the clasp. I was still weary, but I loved the earrings so much it would have pained me to return them. The SA gave me her card and told me if I ever had any problems with the earring, I could bring them back.

Fast forward to about a month ago... I wore those earrings to work, and about two hours into the day, I realized that I only had one earring on. The one that had had the loose clasp had fallen out somewhere. I was so sad. I took the one earring, the box, the receipt, and the SA's card to Nordstrom. The SA who'd helped me was no longer there, but the woman I spoke with did tell me that they'd be happy to exchange my earring for a new pair from the same designer. She also said I could instead go to Customer Service, to see if I could get a refund, but I didn't opt to go that route.

In short, I was very pleased that Nordstrom stood behind a product that they sold, and I'm glad for the use that I got out of the earrings while they lasted, because they were really beautiful.

^ you have the receipt, therefore already an easy return.

EstherS, doesn't. So it will involve a little more on the part of the SA/Nordstrom to do her return.

I was at Nordstrom recently and I overheard the store manager talking with a district manager about the changes coming to their return policy. They are getting STRICT!

I'm curious to know what these are - can you share any? Nordstrom's great return policy is one of the main reasons I shop there so often. I think I'd be more inclined to shop elsewhere if they make major changes.

hmm...Maybe it depends on the SA or individual Nordstrom store policy? Mine doesn't need or look at it (even though I have it) for returns. They're able to look up my purchases from my card.

That's really nice of them to honor it for you. At the end of the day I think that it is okay to return something if the return is honest. By honest I mean that so many people are trying to commit "white collar" shoplifting nowadays by purchasing items at discount stores and returning it to Nordstrom or returning fake merchandise. I feel that as long as you are not doing something that would otherwise be illegal like the two situations I just listed for example then you are making a valid return and that is nothing you should feel bad about.

And this is why Nordstrom will always be NUMERO UNO in my book!!!:D
