I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but...

If it was really years ago, I don't see why you think you're entitled to a return (especially for full price).

I know that Nordies have a liberal return policy, but IF it really has been years, then I think you are abusing their system.

I don't think you should get flamed (though I don't think OP felt she was "entitled" to a return), but I agree. If it has the tags and it was that long ago then she should just take it to a consignment shop.

Here's what it comes down to--
1. receipt, if no receipt then...
2. tags with the sticker, if not that then...
3. cc you paid with, if didn't pay with cc then...
4. look up purchase history (hope they put it in system if you paid with cash), if they didn't then...
5. You are SOL...(though I'm sure many stores would still take it if it is currently being sold, but you'll only get the current price)

I have to agree.

Without a receipt or any computer record for the purchase, most stores will only give the lowest-ever sale price for the item, and often, that's way less than the current marked down price.

I can't imagine how you'd expect to get full price back for something that you have no way of proving that you even bought it there!

I have purchased from Nordstrom.com and those items may not have the upc sticker thingie. But they do have the invoice that came with the order.

I actually like it that Nordstrom has set some boundaries on their return policy. I have witnessed some attempts to abuse their generous policy.

I've purchased a couple of items from Nordstrom and they didn't put a sticker. The tag itself had a barcode that was scanned instead. When I returned the item they scanned the tag. Most items still require a sticker, but there are exceptions.

I love the stickers they put on the tags for in-store purchases.

Just very recently, I've been going through a round of combined on-line and in-store purchasing trying to get a family of five suited up properly for a formal event that took place last weekend. Wife, Mom and Daughter the personal shopper to the rescue!!
Anyhow, in the multiple trips, I had misplaced one of the receipts, for one of the dresses not to Mother's liking.
Very sheepishly, I asked if there was anyway to trace the purchase on my account and was so very pleasantly surprised when the SA explained how the tag sticker was coded to my credit purchase. One run of the reader and the dress was back in inventory and full price (i paid) back on my card. I was so thankful --no problems.

P.S. SA also told me the important info for on-line purchases if returned is usually on BAG sticker

Give Nordstrom a chance - you might be pleasantly surprised. Their customer service is amazing. They will do absolutely everything possible to help you out. It the item has tags, they should be able to give you a full refund. In fact, when I shop at Nordstrom, I don't keep receipts. They paste a purchasing sticker on an item's label and use it to identify your purchase. I remember returning a jacket that hang in my closet (unworn) for more than a year - I returned it and received a full refund. This is completely different from the return policies at some other department stores. I tried returning a sweater that I had never worn to Macy's after about a year and the price showed, I believe, minus one penny!!?!! Shop with confidence at Nordstom. They have the most customer focused customer service I have ever seen.

If there is no receipt and no Nordstrom sticker, I'm not sure they will accept it. I've returned things with no receipt in the past, but it always had the sticker on the label.

And yes, if they do take it back, you'll get the current (lowest) sale price.

I have to agree with a few others. If it is many years ago, I wouldn't feel right taking it back to the store, who would have to refund me for the time I kept the item out of their store, making it impossible for them to sell it. I would take it to a consignment store, or sell it myself. If people abuse Nordstrom's generous return policy, before long the policy will change and more people will be out of luck when they want to return something. JMO.

^ yes, the policies are changing. I was in customer service yesterday and you know how they used to give parking validations, well now you have to have at least a $20 purchase to get validation. The lady next to me was appalled - LOL....

In Seattle they usually do always tell you need 25 dollars purchase in order to get a tocken. And it is just worth a dollar.
