Hey A! Fancy seeing you around here! I haven't been on AF much. My obsession has changed from premium denim to handbags..sooo bad for my wallet!

Hahahah funny seeing you here too! I hardly visit AF either b/c I have enough jeans to last me a couple of lifetimes. LOL
Handbags are fun but they are much more $$$ :graucho:

As far Nordstrom's 14 yr return policy, that is what I was told but I googled it to confirm and found this:
Nordstrom Return Policy – No time limit

Nordstrom have no limit on returns

  • There’s a few stories floating around about a woman who returned snow tires to Nordstrom & they took them back (Nordstrom don’t even sell snow tires)

So maybe there is no time limit at all. 14 yrs is pretty absurd and I would be embarrassed to try to return something 14 yrs old.

I would be ashamed to return something old, even though it was unused. To me this is unethical and is taking advantage of a retailer. Actions like this cause prices to rise, so that behavior has ramifications on both the person returning as well as other customers. And people who select makeup at the store, take it home, use it and then return....oh, don't get me started.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. :smile1: As long as the bag is new, with tickets attatched, I would exchange it for something you will enjoy and use. Most likely, the person who gave the gift wanted you to wear it, not hide it in a closet. Since you asked, for future reference, consider returning/exchanging unwanted gifts in a timely manner so that someone else may have the opportunity to enjoy that which you did not. One person's castoff is another person's treasure!

Nordstrom has the best return policy of any store IMO. I had a 2 year old Michael Kors watch and the resin band just broke when I went to put it on, I tried to get a replacement band from Michael Kors on their repair service but they said they no longer had the bands. Nordstrom took it back and gave me a brand new replacement watch. I will only buy watches at Nordstrom now, even if it costs a little more.

I agree!

I worked at Nordstrom last year and once had to return something (that still had the tags on) from the 1976 Anniversary sale. I would have no problem returning something from 6 years ago, however, whoever said it is right - you can't tell the date of purchase from the "receipt sticker." Yes, it might be sent to Nordstrom Rack, but you will be refunded the original dollar amount that was spent on it.
Good luck :smile1:

In the OPs post its unclear whether she just received the gift but suspects that it was purchased a long time ago or whether she has been sitting on the gift for all this time. Either way, if the store is willing to take it back, great; if not, oh well (who can blame them). Kate Spade bags are pretty classic and I'm sure they can send it to a RACK store. It's not really our job to decide whether its "wrong" to return something after all these years -- if the store is willing, that's their decision. I just wouldn't fight them on it if they say no.

Heck, I heard from an SA that Nordstrom's returned a handbag because a customer put her foundation in her bag and it opened up and got all over the bag. They returned the handbag with no questions asked as well as replacing the foundation.

That is absurd. It's the customer's fault that the foundation spilled inside the bag. What's even more absurd is that they replaced her foundation too.

What happens when customers wear things, then return them? Does Nordstrom damage out the merchandise or do they retag it and put it back on the floor for some unsuspecting customer to buy? If I'm paying full price for an item, it had better not be previously worn then returned. :yucky:

Nordstrom once replaced a woman's white purse because the new sweater she just purchased color transferred onto it. I believe she returned the sweater, and got a brand new bag!

It seems like Nordstrom is generally really good with returns, so I was wondering about a return for a Pencey dress that I received as a gift about a year ago. My boyfriend at the time purchased it for me prior to last Christmas and I finally just wore it a few days ago. Unfortunately, literally five large rhinestones fell off and it looks terrible. Would they accept it and either give me cash or a store credit? I'm not sure if my ex used his.Nordstrom card or cash though. Thanks for the feedback in advance! =)
